About this listen

A Sizzling, Small-town, Grumpy/Sunshine, Single Dad Romance. Jackson Corbett is a gorgeous single dad who doesn’t want complications at his family winery. And I’m the messy tornado who just offered to be his new nanny. Jackson Corbett is not impressed when I show up for an interview in my pajamas at the wrong time. But I need this job working in the tasting room at Buttercup Hill Vineyards and I'll do anything to get it. Years of sommelier courses and amateur wine-making have landed me here, at the best winery in Napa Valley, and I'm here to stay. So I make him a deal. He’s overworked and stretched thin with parenting and a stressful job. I tell him that if I’m hired by the winery, I’ll work a second job as his nanny.

I can endure the world’s grouchiest dad and entertain his feisty seven-year-old if it means career advancement and paying off my debts, while taking care of my younger sister. I also know there's no risk of romantic entanglement because Jackson is a grade-A grump—albeit a hot and chiseled one—who’s been burned by love. The weight of the world sits on his muscular shoulders, and he spends most of his time worrying about his daughter and looking at spreadsheets. The last thing I’m concerned about is how he looks at me.

Until he does. I catch him sneaking glances, and I can’t help staring right back. And noticing how sweet he is with his daughter, how his chilly façade starts to melt, and how he lingers longer than necessary when I’m around. I find myself wanting to help him even if it means spending more time away from my sister, right when she needs me the most. I’m terrified of letting down the only real family I have left. Falling for him could ruin my carefully-wrought plans. But what if I love him more?

A Wonderfully Entertaining Story & Listen🎧

I enjoyed this wonderful grumpy/sunshine, single dad romance immensely, and the story grabbed my attention immediately and held it captive the entire time. Ruby and aspiring wine maker, sommelier, applied for a job at the Corbett’s Buttercup Hill Vineyard, and arrived at her six AM interview just in time or was she? The person who greeted her was not the friendliest and was not expecting her, and it turns out he was the brother, Jackson, and not Dashiell, the one conducting the interview. Jackson, thought Dashiell, hired a nanny for him, something he was not very receptive to that, so he just wanted the woman to just leave, except she wouldn’t just or give up her opportunity to get a job at the vineyard. The interview was for six PM, so she left and came back, but before leaving she told Jackson if she gets hired to work at the vineyard she will take the job of being his daughter Fiona’s nanny, too. Jackson was going to make sure she did not get that job, but Dash hired her regardless of what he said or wanted. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out, with the perfect balance of drama, a touch of angst, charming and heartwarming moments, heartfelt emotions and a steamy, slow burn romance. This is an original story and the writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are character growth and development. It was great to get to know these characters and watch their relationship morph into more. I am looking forward to spending more time at the Buttercup Hill vineyards with these amazing characters. Stacy Travis, thank you for this wonderfully entertaining story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Hannah Chiclana and Aaron Donaghue were the perfect cast to bring these characters and story to life. They understood the characters they were portraying, giving each a voice that was fitting, and I loved how they owned their roles, sounding believable in each one. Chiclana’s Ruby was perfection, showcasing every aspect of her personality, from her sunny demeanor to her strength and determination. Donaghue was just as fabulous as Jackson, also showcasing all sides of his personality and demeanor, and transitioning in his role as his character did. Both were fantastic performing the roles of the secondary characters, too. These two made a great narration team, their voices complemented each other and their performance elevates the already wonderful story to another level. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to.

Cute

This was a sweet grumpy/sunshine romance.
I absolutely adored Fiona and how sweet she was. I loved the instant connection Ruby & Fiona had.
This was full of family, love & hope.
Jackson and Ruby both have things in their past that make them move with caution, but the chemistry between them is intense and the friendship that forms make falling in love that much sweeter.
This was sweet, and full of laughs, love and the comfort of family.

The narration was great!

Single dad romance

I liked this book for a light-hearted romance read. It is definitely low angst, but it was a nice quick listen with pretty talented narrators. They both did a great job giving each character their own personality and inflection. I appreciated that Fiona, Jax's daughter, is a prevalent character. A lot of single dad romances tend to keep the children more in the background but that was not the case here and some of my favorite scenes include the feisty child. Ruby is a great FMC and was easy to root for as she is selfless throughout whether taking care of her sister, Fiona or Jax himself. Although I would consider it a slow-burn, when the MCs finally do come together their chemistry was heat inducing.

Pour me a glass!

Take to a vineyard anytime! There is something about the whole process, from the grapes to the tasting that I just love. And so does Ruby. She shows up at Buttercup Hill for a job interview, and meets Jackson. Not the brother she intends to interview with, but having the wrong time puts her right on his radar and not for the better. Jackson is in a bad way. A single dad, the one who runs the finances for the vineyard, he finds himself in a load of trouble. He needs a nanny and the vineyard is in in the red. Lucky for him, Ruby offers to be his nanny! She is willing to take care of his daughter and work to become a sommelier. But will Jackson warm up to her? Stacy Travis writes a sweet, story with relevant issues and it's a wonderful start to this series. I was captivated from the start and I cannot wait to visit the winery again!

Hannah Chiclana and Aaron Donaghue are perfectly cast for this story. Chiclana plays the smart and ambitious Ruby. She easily creates a personality that while focused, is a wonderful mother figure and passionate woman. Donaghue is the broody Jackson. He is a tough nut, worried about his future, unsure where things are going, but knows his attraction to Ruby and his love for his daughter, each element coming through his voice. I enjoyed this team and their performance.
