About this listen
From the renowned authority on education and parenting, "an in-depth approach to aid parents and teachers to work together with behaviorally challenging students" (Publishers Weekly) - now revised and updated.
School discipline is broken. Too often, the kids who need our help the most are viewed as disrespectful, out of control, and beyond help, and are often the recipients of our most ineffective, most punitive interventions. These students - and their parents, teachers, and administrators - are frustrated and desperate for answers.
Dr. Ross W. Greene, author of the acclaimed book The Explosive Child, offers educators and parents a different framework for understanding challenging behavior. Dr. Greene's Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) approach helps adults focus on the true factors contributing to challenging classroom behaviors, empowering educators to address these factors and create helping relationships with their most at-risk kids.
This revised and updated edition of Lost at School contains the latest refinements to Dr. Greene's CPS model, including enhanced methods for solving problems collaboratively, improving communication, and building relationships with kids.
Dr. Greene's lively, compelling narrative includes:
- Tools to identify the problems and lagging skills causing challenging behavior
- Explicit guidance on how to radically improve interactions with challenging kids and reduce challenging episodes - along with many examples showing how it's done
- Practical guidance for successful planning and collaboration among educators, parents, and kids
Backed by years of experience and research and written with a powerful sense of hope and achievable change, Lost at School gives teachers and parents the realistic strategies and information to impact the classroom experience of every challenging kid (and their classmates).

A Must Read for Teachers and Youth Workers
This book was enlightening to say the least. I was completely unaware of the COS techniques so beautifully demonstrated in this book, and having listened to the scenarios I am now singing it’s praises to anyone who will listen. The way the book is presented makes for a riveting listen, and I finished it in record time. Should be a standard part of teacher training in my opinion, and be taught to all parents as a way of navigating challenging behaviour. I will be using the CPS strategies on coworkers for sure!

lost at school - my take
Excellent book with loads of insight. Very real and does not pretend it's easy. It shows hard work pays

Overall a good read.
If you have already read 'The Explosive Child' by this author you may feel it is a little repetitive but I enjoyed the story running throughout the book which made it easier to listen to and easier to apply to real life circumstances. I feel he skims over SEN children a little and doesn't offer much in the way of alternative interventions when children have speech, language and communication difficulties. I have a daughter who has Downs Syndrome and Autism and cannot explain or articulate what upsets her so the approaches in this book aren't particularly helpful for personal reasons but I believe it would be helpful with more able children struggling in a mainstream setting. School leaders should read this and consider how their reward systems may be affecting children with those under developed (or 'lagging skills' as the author puts it) in social and emotional behaviours.

This make soooo much sense
If you have, or work with, tricky kids THIS MAKES SENSE!
Clearly explained with great examples. I felt like every time I thought “yeah but what about…” while listening, the answer to my doubt was covered in the next sentence.
A pragmatic and empathetic approach that actually seems like it might work!
I will listen to this many times I am sure.
