About this listen

Lost at the far side of the sun, two pilots, five space tourists, and one fluffy dog explore a miniature planet steeped in mystery. The planet is small enough to circumnavigate in a few hours. Treetop clouds form in unusual shapes. And what's that rumble each morning? Even their remarkably perceptive pup hasn't figured that one out. Will they be marooned forever? It will take scientific ingenuity and a good sense of humor, but these marginally clever castaways stand a chance. And even if they don't make it home, being lost was never more fun.

A fun book

this book has good characters, a gentle story and a great deal of humour. I giggled often and thoroughly enjoyed it. Recommended.

Great fun (just a bit too long)

Great fun, both story and performance. Likeable (or at least interesting) characters, all of them. Creative sci-fi comedy full of surprises. Plus, every book with a dog in it is a good story. ;-)

Still not quite five stars because - after a brilliant, fast beginning - the story loses momentum. It really should have been shortened. Quite a bit shortened, actually. I'd go so far as to say that the book would improve by cutting up to a third or even half of it. Still very entertaining the way it is, but could have been brilliant.

It's OK

I stuck this out until the end. At best, I'd describe it as a gentle time-passer. At worst, an inconsistent, flawed, sometimes annoyingly narrated weak story that's just a tiny bit better than the sum of its parts.

Another piece of proof that really good sci-fi is hard to write. And even harder to find.

If you're really bored you could listen to this while you're waiting for something good to come up.
