Summary

During the Second World War, Flt Lt Richard Stevens led an extraordinary campaign as an RAF nightfighter. Known to contemporaries as "Cat's Eyes" and by the height of his success in July 1941 as the "Lone Wolf", Flt Lt Stevens was the RAF's highest scoring nightfighter pilot with 14 victories.

What makes his story unique is that all this was achieved without the aid of radar or another crew member. Instead, Flt Lt Stevens used extraordinary skill, instinct, and innate marksmanship. Described as "one of the greatest nightfighter pilots who ever fought in Fighter Command" by Sir Archibald Sinclair, Secretary of State for Air and with AVM B. E. Embry also crediting "his high standard of courage and skill as a nightfighter pilot" as a contribution to the final defeat of the enemy at night-it is not hard to see why Stevens was greatly admired by his peers.

Thanks to over 20 years of painstaking research by Terry Thompson and a rich resource of documentation and photography, Andy Saunders is now able to tell the exceptional story of one of Britain's finest nightflying pilots of the Second World War. This extraordinary biography will be eagerly devoured by WWII military aviation enthusiasts and students of air warfare.

Good Book.

A WW2 hero I had never heard of. Wonderful story but tainted with sadness. A well worth listen but felt the narrative was slightly marred by inflection. Otherwise it was well presented. It's funny how great people sometimes have odd backgrounds.

Intriguing story let down by poor writing/editing.

Too much repetition and padding. Narration is flat. What’s the point of the final chapter?

Robotic narration

AI voices aren’t there yet by far. The book deserves a real narrator. The story is fascinating and of the time including pre-war.

Interesting story narrated by a robot

This book has been well researched and is a fascinating account of a strange hero. It is entirely ruined by a narrator that at first I took to be an electronic device.
I plodded on as was interested in the content. The narrator’s lack of competence is an insult both to the book and the subject of the book. What a wasted opportunity to tell a gripping story.

Amazing story, appalling narration

This is a suoerb account of the wartime exploits of Flt. Lt. Richard Stevens.

It is, however, badly let down by the most appalling narration. It sounds like a rather poor AI routine was used to read this book. The tone is mostly flat throughour and crucial phrases lack the right emphasis. Quite frankly, Flt. Lt. Stevens deserves better.

If you can get past the narration, then you should enjoy this story.

Very interesting story. Shame about the narration.

This story is well worth a listen, you’ll just have to get over the AI-like narration.

An enigmatic man

I am interested in hearing individual stories, particularly those of men who flew in WW2. I had heard of PO Stevens but wanted to know more. Fascinating tale.
