Summary

Prožitky blízko smrti zažívaly všechny generace lidstva. Především v posledních dvou století s příchodem sekularizovaného způsobu života se ale lidé přestali s těmito prožitky svěřovat. Báli se, že budou vysmívaní, anebo měli dojem, že šlo o halucinace vyvolané medikací. Až studium doktora Moodyho pomalu, ale jistě tyto pocity oddémonizovalo. Zjistil, že respondenti mají některé společné rysy, například zdání bytí mimo tělo, průchod tunelem, setkání s mrtvými příbuznými a vnímání silného světla. Dokázal, že si umírající pacient uvědomuje své okolí i potom, co byl prohlášený za klinicky mrtvého. Pocity těch, kteří se – navzdory prognózám – vrátili nazpět do života, najdeme v knize Život po životě. Příběhy navrátivších jsou ze dvou skupin – těch, kteří byli oživeni po tom, co byli prohlášeni za mrtvé a těch, kteří utrpěli vážná zranění, nebo byli smrtelně nemocní. Kniha se nesnaží z nasbíraných faktů udělat senzaci, ale přistupuje k nim z vědeckého hlediska, aniž by tím snižovala svou srozumitelnost.
