Summary
'I see my story as a suite of songs that have a magical connection. I never understood that connection until I sat down to write. It was then that the magic started to flow.'
Let Love Rule is a work of deep reflection. Lenny Kravitz looks back at his life with candor, self-scrutiny and humour.
'My life is all about opposites,' he writes. 'Black and white. Jewish and Christian. The Jackson 5 and Led Zeppelin. I accepted my Gemini soul. I owned it. I adored it. Yins and yangs mingled in various parts of my heart and mind, giving me balance and fueling my curiosity and comfort.'
Let Love Rule covers a vast canvas stretching from Manhattan's Upper East Side, Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant, Los Angeles's Baldwin Hills, Beverly Hills, and finally to France, England and Germany. It's the story of a wildly creative kid who, despite tough struggles at school and extreme tension at home, finds salvation in music. We see him grow as a musician and ultimately a master songwriter, producer and performer.
We also see Lenny's spiritual growth - and the powerful way in which spirit informs his music. The cast of characters surrounding Lenny is extraordinary: his father, Sy, a high-powered news executive; his mother, Roxie Roker, a television star; and Lisa Bonet, the young actress who becomes his muse.
The central character, of course, is Lenny, who, despite his great aspirational energy, turns down record deal after record deal until he finds his true voice. The creation of that voice, the same voice that is able to declare 'Let Love Rule' to an international audience, is the very heart of this story.
'Whether recording, performing, or writing a book,' says Lenny, 'my art is about listening to the inspiration inside and then sharing it with people. Art must bring the world closer together.'
This program includes performances of the lyrics that appear in the book. These include Lenny's songs (performed with original instrumentation), as well as songs from his childhood, rhymes he sang with his Grandma Bessie and hymns he performed with his high school choir.

He has surpassed himself with a beautiful opus that gives us insight into his beautiful flawed soul. We learn what drove him , his mistakes and what we love about him , his poetry and his fabulous music. We want part 2 and quickly. You let love rule Lenny and it shows and it has touched all of us .

The love for Lenny just grows and grows!!
I've loved Lenny for more than half my life, 30 years or so, the first time hearing Fields of Joy ( a guy I was dating put it on a mixed tape) was the first time I fell in love. His story told by him, was magical and I feel I know him personally. Thank you Lenny!! #letloverule

write the next one!
no need to comment on the narration, it was Lenny himself and like listening to silk pour into my ear holes.
the story is quite unexpected for me, someone I've followed for nearly 30 years and I didn't know his origins.
I'm taken back to 14 years old when the monthly random book club CDs came into our household and I got to listen to Are you gonna go may way, and the obsession began.

Power of never giving up
Love LK music so hearing about not only his journey to getting signed as an artist but also his family history really puts into context the connection between music and experience.
Great story telling, such clear memories, very interesting and wild life.
Looking forward to hearing the next book about his life.

A great coming of age story
I was intrigued to hear this story after hearing an interview given by Lenny Kravitz on the Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Framed as a coming of age story, it was a really interesting & authentic journey of Lenny’s early life & all the influences that helped form his character & find his sound. Really beautifully told.

Amazing Storytelling
Loved every minute of this book. Lennys expressive voice was perfect for weaving the stories of his childhood and youth. never boring, full of amazing revelations and a cast full of all the greatest musicians and actors. I loved the way music was also weaved in at key moments. Highly recommend!
