About this listen
From the author of the genre-breaking international TikTok sensation Butcher & Blackbird: the second book in the Ruinous Love Trilogy - a hate-to-love dark romantic comedy packed with danger, chaos, and heat.
----
Every killer claims a soul.
Every phantom wants revenge.
All contract killer Lachlan Kane wants is a quiet life. But when he botches a job for his boss's biggest client, Lachlan knows he'll never claw his way out of the underworld. At least, not until Lark Montague offers him a deal: use his skills to hunt down a killer and she'll find a way to secure his freedom.
The catch? He has to marry her first. And they can't stand each other.
Indie singer-songwriter Lark may seem like sunshine and glitter personified but she has her own secrets hiding in the shadows. With her formidable family in a tailspin and her best friend's happiness on the line, she's willing to make a vow to the man she's determined to hate, no matter how tempting the broody assassin might be.
As Lachlan and Lark navigate the dark world that binds them together, it becomes impossible to discern their fake marriage from a real one. But it's not just familiar dangers that haunt them. There's another phantom lurking on their doorstep . . . And this one has come for blood.

Wasn’t sure it could make me love the characters as much as the first - I was wrong!
An interesting second in the series. Slow burn, loved that there wasn’t spice thrown everywhere, and the narrators! Amazing job.

Cute epoxy resin ideas
I loved the first book. I'll listen to it again and again. Hilarious and dark. I wasn't as struck on this one. But it still made me chuckle in parts. Narrators were great. Gold stars to them 😉

Refreshing Serial Unalivers Romance
Diving into this book I thought it would be more or less the same as the first in the series, but Brynne Weaver showed you can write about the same topic and still make it refreshing and interesting!

Live, Laugh, Lark 💚
Absolutely loved it as a whole. I ate the book up just as fast as someone can drink a “smoothie” Lachlan Kane is 🤌🏻 Lark is beautifully unhinged! I love her character and development throughout. The storyline kept me hooked and laughing and gasping from one moment to the next. It’s a dark rom com is the best explanation that I can give.

Entertaining
I didn't love this as much as the first, possibly because I just didn't resonate with the characters quite as much, but it's definitely the same kind of vibe and an easy read. It's not a literary masterpiece or anything, but lets be honest here, we're not reading this genre for that. 100% worth a go :)

Great narration
Fluid conversational vibe. Never thought I'd laugh so much with a story about killing people.

OMG ‼️‼️‼️
i have never listened to a more perfect audiobook in my life.
samatha and eric - whatever you need, let me know. i would do anything for you both for giving me this masterpiece.
brynne - same goes for you, thank you for writing such a beautiful, funny, torturous book. never in my life have i laughed so hard and then cried two minutes later.
this audiobook was honestly perfection. the performances were stellar, the writing was impeccable, i have no criticisms.
the only thing i will say is that i would read/listen to butcher and blackbird before you read/listen to this book because you will absolutely lose your mind (i found myself shouting into thin air listening to this book (also, make sure you have amply time to finish the book in one sitting like i did because it was impossible to turn off)).
