About this listen

From the author of the genre-breaking international TikTok sensation Butcher & Blackbird: the second book in the Ruinous Love Trilogy - a hate-to-love dark romantic comedy packed with danger, chaos, and heat.

----

Every killer claims a soul.
Every phantom wants revenge.

All contract killer Lachlan Kane wants is a quiet life. But when he botches a job for his boss's biggest client, Lachlan knows he'll never claw his way out of the underworld. At least, not until Lark Montague offers him a deal: use his skills to hunt down a killer and she'll find a way to secure his freedom.

The catch? He has to marry her first. And they can't stand each other.

Indie singer-songwriter Lark may seem like sunshine and glitter personified but she has her own secrets hiding in the shadows. With her formidable family in a tailspin and her best friend's happiness on the line, she's willing to make a vow to the man she's determined to hate, no matter how tempting the broody assassin might be.

As Lachlan and Lark navigate the dark world that binds them together, it becomes impossible to discern their fake marriage from a real one. But it's not just familiar dangers that haunt them. There's another phantom lurking on their doorstep . . . And this one has come for blood.

Live, Laugh, Lark 💚

Absolutely loved it as a whole. I ate the book up just as fast as someone can drink a “smoothie” Lachlan Kane is 🤌🏻 Lark is beautifully unhinged! I love her character and development throughout. The storyline kept me hooked and laughing and gasping from one moment to the next. It’s a dark rom com is the best explanation that I can give.

Entertaining

I didn't love this as much as the first, possibly because I just didn't resonate with the characters quite as much, but it's definitely the same kind of vibe and an easy read. It's not a literary masterpiece or anything, but lets be honest here, we're not reading this genre for that. 100% worth a go :)

Great narration

Fluid conversational vibe. Never thought I'd laugh so much with a story about killing people.

My Roman Empire

As someone who is just about as obsessed with Keanu Reeves as Lark, I am fully in love with this book. Every damn character. I loved seeing snippets of Rowan & Sloan's life as well as experiencing the slowest of slow burns that ever slow burned with Lark and Lachlan. Just an all around 10/10 book. Amazingly witty with the right amount of feels and just entertaining as hell! I will never stop recommending this to everyone I meet! Thank you to the author and the narrators for this experience! 💙

Great sequel

The spice was great and the story was maybe not as good as the first book but still a great read.

It was ok

It was not very story driven as I thought it might be. Butcher&Blackbird was much better
