Summary

Mac is afraid he won't recover enough to go back to being a cop; Tony's afraid that he will.

Three months after being injured, Detective Jared MacLean is healing, but he's afraid it may not be enough to go back on the job. He won't give up, though. Being a cop is written deep in Mac’s bones, and he'll do whatever it takes to carry his badge again.

Tony used to wish he could have Mac safely home, but watching his strong husband battle disabilities is far from Tony's dream come true. When Mac is asked to consult on a case involving one of Tony's students, both men will have to face old demons and new fears to find a way to move forward together.

(This is a lightly edited rerelease of the 2013 original, bringing Mac and Tony to their HEA.content warning for a domestic abuse case, suicide.)

Complicated feelings

The author perfectly captured the complexity of feelings Mac's recuperation brought up for both himself and Tony. Mac is still dedicated to being a cop, but also appreciates how the risks of the job affect not just him, but those he loves. Tony is delighted to see Mac's progress but having lived through the nightmare of almost losing him he can't fully support Mac's desire to return to work. Fortunately, these two are written as adults who confront their fears and feelings together and talk about them. It seems only fitting that the case in this one connects with both of their jobs as it involves Mac being asked to consult and one of Tony's students. Another amazing entry in this series. J.F. Harding did an amazing job capturing the nuances of both Mac's and Tony's feelings as they work through this new stage in their life together.

I loved this series so much.

The final instalment of Tony and Mac’s story was outstanding! I loved the entire series and the characters (both Tony and Mac and the kids) will stay in my heart for a long time! I will miss them all, but it’s good I can get back and read and/or listen about them anytime I want!
In this last instalment Mac is still trying to recover after being shot and he is desperate to get back to the job that is such a defining trait for him. Being a cop is not only a job for him, it’s who he is.
Meanwhile Tony, who was never so trilled with Mac’s job to begin with, is struggling more and more to be accepting and supporting of Mac’s desire to get back to active duty.
Among these struggles, there’s everyday life going on, with two kids, home life and its ups and downs.
Kaje Harper has done a wonderful job with this series: it’s a perfect balance of action, drama, and perfectly ordinary everyday moments.
J.F. Harding is doing a great job with his series, and he has once again outdone himself in bringing all the characters to life in a spectacular way!

Fantastic series

I loved this series so much. I loved how Mac's struggles to get fit and well to go back to work was not rushed in the book and we went on the journey with him. I loved all the action, and their everyday life trying to bring up their children. Very well written series and excellent narration by JF Harding.

Love this series - outstanding narration!

I love, love this series and have been waiting impatiently for this 4th volume. Since the series builds on each other, I recommend reading the books in order.
Mac is still fighting for his health after being gunned down. He is a cop with his heart and soul and wants to return to active duty as soon as possible. But that's not an easy thing to do. Tony, on the other hand, sees the risks of Mac's job and is not unhappy that Mac has three more months of desk duty. Mac's profession always leads to discussion points. However, Tony also has to deal with unexpected career obstacles. It's like real life, you never know what's coming next.
The author has done a fantastic job of capturing Mac's recovery, as well as the day-to-day life with all the fears and worries of the children and adults as well. It's nice to see the two of them working on their relationship, talking about things that bother the other, and just trying to be there for each other. The kids Ben and Anna are a highlight and I love their sibling squabbles. When Mac's past catches up with him, Tony learns why Mac never told him about his family. But Tony stands by him during this time and supports him where he can.
And, of course, there is a case to solve that is quite interesting. The everyday life of Mac and Tony mixed with the investigation result in an entertaining but also an emotional story that captivated me from beginning to end. I listened to the audiobook in just two days because I couldn't stop.

J. F. Harding has outdone himself. He captured even the smallest nuances of the characters' emotions perfectly, and I love the voices he has for Anna and Ben.
Over all, J.F. Harding is a great narrator and his narration made a fantastic series even better. I love his performance as he made the story feel very real.
I will miss Mac and Tony very much.

Tony and Mac weathered the storm.

I’ve been looking forward to listening to this audiobook ever since I finished book three, Home Work. I knew it would be wonderful because the first three books were. In Learning Curve Tony and Mac get the solid HEA that they’ve worked so hard for,

Mac has been working hard to get his speech back to normal after the life altering injury he suffered in Home Work. He wants to return to work as a homicide detective – full time, not on limited duty. Tony loves Mac and he wants him to be happy but he really doesn’t want him to be a cop any more. This is something that Tony has to deal with because he knows what being a cop means to Mac.

Tony has his own trials to deal with in Learning Curve. The way he interacts with students and the GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) is questioned and he has to handle Ben’s grandparents after a big event happens for him and Ben.

This series has followed the ups and downs of two men who love each other. Mac goes from being in the closet to being married to the love of his life and coming out to his co-workers, friends and family. I’ve come to feel like I know Mac and Tony after reading about all of the things they’ve had to handle as part of their everyday life and I’m going to miss them.

Life Lessons has been a wonderful series to listen to. JF Harding does a wonderful job performing these stories. The way he captures Mac’s speech problems is chillingly good (especially in book 3). I can’t say enough good things about Learning Curve and the entire series. It’s been my pleasure to follow Mac and Tony on this journey and I’m so glad that I was able to listen to these audiobooks.

A copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request and my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author or narrator.

Love this chapter of their story

I feel you need to read/listen to the previous before this story. This is the next chapter in the lives of Mac and Tony. I love these characters. Their story touches on every day normal. Mac being a police officer is dealing with issues of being shot. He is facing the fact he may never go back to what he used to be. Tony has his own problems plus he has the fear of Mac going back to work. There are so many different things happening and many family issues getting addressed that I could not quit listening and just kept ignoring things around me. I’m so glad the author is continuing this series. It is so easy to get attached to these characters and the pace the author moves this story makes it impossible for me to find a stopping spot. The narration by J.F. Harding made these characters so real. Perfect voice for this story.

Marvelous, Gorgeous Performance by JF Harding

What a marvelous way to end Mac and Tony’s story! In Learning Curve, Kaje Harper pulls out all the stops with the perfect blend of tugging on our heartstrings emotion, edge of our seats action, and whoo-ha *smokey-steamy* loving! Mac and Tony have truly got it right!

Fans of Kaje Harper’s Life Lessons series who have been waiting for the final book to be available in audio… wait no more! J.F. Harding’s performance is simply spectacular in all four novels. The emotion he’s poured into these characters, the tension in his delivery as the suspense builds, and the variety of voices and accents he’s created for this vast cast. It has been an amazing experience!

The thing which impressed me the most in the audio version of Learning Curve, is J.F. Harding’s rendering of Mac’s post-accident recovery voice. Mac’s stuttering, choppy, formal speech pattern gradually improves throughout the story, and Mr. Harding executes it flawlessly.

Intriguing mysteries, compelling family drama, and gorgeous erotic and intimate romance scenes, Kaje Harper’s Love Lessons series is not to be missed.
