About this listen
Lawyer Christina Crawford has a successful career and stable financial future, but is it enough? Her world is disrupted when a routine divorce case means working with a man she never expected - or wanted - to see again. During their first meeting, she can't deny a connection still exists. Her head warns her to run, but her heart yearns to stay.
Steven Mitchell is ruthless in the courtroom, but outside those doors, his easy charm, good looks, and unlimited stream of female companions gives him an unscrupulous reputation. Six years ago, Christina saw beyond his façade, but the emotions she evoked scared him and he pushed her away. Now he wants a second chance and he is determined to get her back...even if he has to play dirty.

Review
Lovely story that is quite funny though I do not think it is supposed to be. It is a love story that is full of misunderstandings that go backwards and forwards and seem never to get resolved. For intelligent people they are remarkably stupid lol. That is a good thing or there would not be any story. I liked it a lot, it is very entertaining. The narrator is excellent and well chosen.

Not the silly girl blubbering over a guy.
When first I requested a copy of this book, and was gifted a copy via Audiobook Boom, I had envisioned that there it was legal mystery with some romance entwined. in fact, it is the opposite - a tiny head nod towards a divorce case only implanted to set up the tale of longings, misconceptions and fraught confrontations, all in the name of love.
So it was not the book for me, although the pre-adolescent antics of two supposedly suave and intelligent adult professional people was both amusing and horrendous. Five years before the beginning of the book, the two main protagonists had had a brief three week affaire ending in their sleeping together. Then a misunderstanding left both of them hurt, angry and apart. In the following years they avoided each other but never found another who attracted them in the same way and, when a divorce case brings them together again on opposing sides, sparks, tempers and tears fly. A further complication is that the sister of one is about to marry the brother of the other - and for some ridiculous reason, both potential lovers believe that that no one must know about their past relationship or the wedding would be in jeapody.
Remarkably, there are more silly emotional misunderstandings than Jane Austen could ever envisage. And plenty of histrionics to fill the pages.
Bob Johnson's narration is good, a reading, not a performance, with little or no attempt to differentiate the voices of the assorted protagonists. Thank goodness. His voice is warm, clear, well modulated with a slight sing song effect.and probably paced correctly with a lazy lope for the story, but, for this reader, it was improved by speeding the sound to 1.25. This is a quick read, quite amusing, but definitely not for anyone hoping for any legal action or mystery beyond how long will it be before they kill each other? Sadly, that part does not come into the story.
