Summary

The eighth instalment in the biggest, funniest, most thrilling comedy-horror-adventure series in the universe – and the follow-up to 2012’s number-one bestseller, Kingdom of the Wicked…

War has finally come.

But it's not a war between good and evil, or light and dark – it's a war between Sanctuaries. For too long, the Irish Sanctuary has teetered on the brink of world-ending disaster, and the other Sanctuaries around the world have had enough. Allies turn to enemies, friends turn to foes, and Skulduggery and Valkyrie must team up with the rest of the Dead Men if they're going to have any chance at all of maintaining the balance of power and getting to the root of a vast conspiracy that has been years in the making.

But while this war is only beginning, another war rages within Valkyrie herself. Her own dark side, the insanely powerful being known as Darquesse, is on the verge of rising to the surface. And if Valkyrie slips, even for a moment, then Darquesse will burn the world and everyone in it.

Great listen

Very good book, really interesting when you look back and see how the characters have developed. Still miss Rupert Degas though :(

Also, this is set just after the Tanith spin off. I would recommend listening to that first.

Bit sprawling, plot-wise

Still worth a read, but not nearly as enjoyable as the others before it in the series. There's too much going on, not really any emotional pay-off for the reader in the end. It's very much a book that just gets the series to where it needs to be to finish in the next book.

I love this book

This book is fabulous, the reader is great and the story is gripping. I love the whole sires. I am dyslexic and so my whole life I have found it hard to read, this has really helped with learning how to pronounce words. I love Deric Landy and all his books. I have finished all the books and this one is one of my favourites!!
I have to say if you are getting for a dyslexic person don’t worry about there reading skills going down it actually helps me a lot.

100% recommend ♥️ best book ♥️

Brilliant as usual

Being a great Skulduggery Pleasant fan, I am absolutely addicted to this series and I am agog with anticipation for each subsequent instalment. The "Last Stand of Dead Men" does not disappoint. With his usual ruthlessness, Derek Landy clearly does not appreciate too much attachment to any given character and the book is full of twists and turns. Can't wait for the next one!
