Un grupo de estudiantes comenta un cuadro y, de repente, un extraño elemento de la pintura quiebra la serenidad del momento. Una mujer se aloja en un hotel madrileño y, al salir a la calle, experimenta un salto en el tiempo… Cristina Fernández Cubas vuelve a la infancia y a la madurez, posa su mirada en la soledad y en la familia, indaga en la vida aparentemente anodina que llevamos, y nos descubre que lo enigmático, lo asombroso, pasa inadvertido hasta que tenemos el arrojo de pararnos a observar con detenimiento.
