Un petit Marseillais du début du XXe siècle : l'école primaire, le cocon familial, puis les premières vacances dans les collines, à La Treille, synonymes de liberté… Adoptant le point de vue du petit garçon espiègle qu’il fut, Marcel Pagnol couche ses souvenirs sur le papier et livre quelques scènes d’anthologie, comme celle de la première chasse avec son père.

Dès sa parution en 1957, La Gloire de mon père remporte un grand succès. Aujourd’hui encore, ce texte séduira petits et grands, car chacun peut se reconnaître dans les sentiments du petit Pagnol.
