Summary

Sleeping with the enemy has never been so complicated. Twenty-eight-year-old Brooklyn Campbell is having a bad day. A speeding ticket, a towed car, and a broken heel are all working against her laid-back vibe. To top it all off, her birth mother, whom she's never met, has requested contact. The only bright spot is an impromptu date with a beautiful and mysterious brunette. Jessica Lennox is what you would call a high-powered executive. She's the head of a multimillion-dollar advertising firm in New York City, and it didn't happen by accident. But when the blonde head turner from the wine bistro turns out to be her number one competitor, her life gets infinitely more complex.

Is New York big enough for both Brooklyn and Jessica? Maybe it's just time they experienced it together...

Great listen

This is the first audio book I've listened to where I haven't read the book. It was strange to say the least and took some getting used to. What a great first listen it was though in the end, I really liked the characters and the storyline was real with just the right amount of farytail we all know and love from lesfic. I will absolutely listen to, and maybe now read, more from this author.

Loved it.

Good story with great characters and we'll performed by Felicity Munroe who gave voices to the characters and brought the story to life.

Got this title on an Audible twofer to make up the offer. Listened to the story in almost a continual sitting finishing the last 2 hours off at 4 am .

Have now downloaded part 3 from this same offer and about to get Samantha's story for part 2.

An easy listen.

Although I would say the story is much of the same. Predictable and nothing special. I liked it all the same and will move on to the second and third in the series at some point soon. The characters are likeable and funny in places. Enjoy.

Best of the charming Soho Loft wlw series

Melissa Brayden is a gifted story teller with a talent for charming love stories. I found these stories enjoyable despite Melissa Brayden writing about things she obviously has little knowledge of. This meant I frequently had difficulty believing in the fantasy enough to overlook an almost complete lack of reality, which is especially noticeable in the goings on of the amateurish advertising agency; Soho Savvy would not survive for a second in the real world.

My difficulty, with all her writing that I have listened to so far, is the fact Melissa Brayden's uses words incorrectly at times and it is irritating that a lack of detailed editing does correct this and also some disappointing sentence construction.

Felicity Munroe conveys the emotion in the story well but is not a great voice artist as she does not give the characters different voices, which makes the story difficult to follow at times.

All in all, the Soho Loft trilogy is an enjoyable listen for anyone, like me, who loves wlw romances.

New York City Romance

Another great work from Melissa Brayden, fitting the romance genre to a 'T'. The performance by Felicity Munroe, is amazing, she brings all the characters to life and performs great ascents for all the different characters - great job!

The romance is centered around Jess (very focused head of her own advertising company) and Brooklyn (partner in a small competing ad company).

What works is the story, it is a great traditional romance, with a conflict in Brooklyn which prevents her from admitting her love to Jessica a. There are a couple of side plots, around a teenager and her mother with a drink problem. As well as Brooklyn finding out she her birth mother wants to see her.

The romance is great, the performance is great, the story and location is very well done. It does start a bit slow, but once it gets going and the characters are established it is very enriching. The narrative is not as snappy as "How Sweet It Is" but the location and descriptions are close to me heart as it is set in NYC . The I<3u moment is very well done.

So why is this not 5 stars. Well just a couple of things. First there are a lot of repeats, again, which become noticeable, 'Starbucks' gets way to much mention in this, I get that it is there for a humors scene which uses this, but it almost feels like product placement. A number of phrases/actions are repeated a few too many times ( hair pushed off her forehead), and, I'm not even sure this is possible, but perhaps too much kissing, oaky in real world its not possible, but in a novel, maybe. This are minor things. It is an engaging listen, and I can relate a lot to the Brooklyn character (it would be nice to believe what is offered to Brooklyn can happen, I have no evidence of it, and perhaps that makes these types of stories bitter/sweet)

Very much recommend it as a very strong lesfic romance.
