Summary
The hope of their world rests on the steel at his side....
Threat of invasion looms. Oraeyn dreams of glory on the battlefield. Instead, he must engage in a battle of wills with a headstrong princess while ushering her to safety (and boredom) in a small village. But they must put aside their differences to save their homeland and complete the second part of their mission: seek out the legendary King’s Warrior to persuade him to take up arms once more.
When their journey leads them to the lost realm of the dragons they get more adventure than either of them bargained for!

Nice classic fantasy book
An impressive amount of world and character building goes on in this. It’s classic fantasy but a brilliant story none the less. Really recommend this and the author is fantastic

Fantastic beasts, magic and adventure.
I’d probably never have come across this author and her works if it wasn’t for Benjamin Fife. I’m a huge fan of his audiobook performances and fantasy is one of my favourite genres for watching, reading and listening. When Mr. Fife pointed me in the direction of this series, I was thrilled to have discovered another world to escape to.
There are young people on a quest and a seasoned warrior who is not entirely what he appears to be. Add in an underground world inhabited by legendary beasts and a certain amount of magic and you have a tale well worth investing the 14 plus hours in.

Great fantasy "fellowship" style book
A well-written fantasy book with a reasonable bit of background and worldbuilding, making for a nicely paced adventure, the author manages to lay out a world that has magic, fantastic beasts and a lot of interesting characters.
Well written with humour and sadness in equal parts, while having enough character development to avoid too simple and one-dimensional "heroes".
Narration is excellent by Benjamin Fife, who is one of my favourite narrators, although personally, the music and songs(2-3 of them over the book, not too excessive) could be skipped.

Adventure +Dragons +Music +Battle= Epic Audiobook!
I'm not sure why I put off starting this book for so long, but in a way, I'm glad I waited till I was ready for the epic adventure that awaited me. Truly, this is the first story ever that makes me compare it to the Chronicles of Narnia, and with that being the series that introduced me to reading when I was a kid, I don't say that lightly. I loved all the threads and plot twists that the author wove together. I loved the characters' growth throughout their quest. I loved getting to explore all the different areas of the kingdom of Aom-igh as Kamarie, Oraeyn, Yole, Brant, and Dylanna went on their mission(s). It's really, really good, and it's perfect for any lover of Epic Fantasy.
Of course, I'm pretty sure my enjoyment of this epic adventure wouldn't have been the same were it not for its narrator, Benjamin Fife. He definitely took this book to the next level and nailed every single one of the characters' voices (be them young or old, male and female), as well as their nuances (whether angry, tired, scared, compassionate and everything in between) his performance was off the charts! Also, there are dragons, a gryphon, and a pegasus in this book, and his voices for each of these creatures are pure gold! I loved that he didn't shy away from the shouts (as some narrators tend to make them more of a hoarse whisper), as well as giving us the full effect of two people speaking at the same time (thanks to editing) and not just trying to mix and say it in just one voice (as I've heard other narrators do). Oh, and there's music! And singing! I was so not expecting it, but I'm pretty sure they made for my favorite parts. :)
Overall, a phenomenal audiobook experience, perfect for fans of Epic Fantasy, dragons, quests, battles, kingdoms at peril, and the fulfillment of ancient prophecies. I seriously can't wait to dive into the next one in this series! ~ 5 stars!
