Summary
I was supposed to be over bad boys, and then, I met King.
I had a plan. Bartend at King's Gambit. Earn enough to open my yoga studio. Ignore my dark past. And never fall for the boss.
Easier said than done.
Falling for King is the best mistake I’ve ever made. But he's not the only one with secrets, and when my past comes to call, it could destroy us both.
Rory deserves everything.
Until I met Rory, I didn't do long-term. Now, he has me thinking about forever. But Rory has a past of his own, one I never expected from the mild-mannered yoga instructor.
He says he can accept my gangland past, but I'm still recovering from my own scars. I can't worry about my own issues when my boyfriend is in danger.
But to keep him safe, I may need to become more dangerous than either of us can imagine.

Enjoyed it
Rory’s past finally catches up with him but will King be able to keep him safe?
Rory and King had a lot to work through and needed to trust each other. They got there in the end!
Fantastic book. The narrator did a brilliant job bringing the characters to life.

Can King protect Rory from his past.
King owns and runs the King's Gambit, where Rory is a bar-tender. Rory fell for King hook line and sinker but was that a good thing as King had a past running with a gang. Rory also had a history of running away from something.
Things get dicey halfway through when damage started happening at the club, and Rory considers running yet again.
Be prepared for kidnapping, a killing. We do have a HEA, but it's not the end of the story. I can't wait for book 3.
These two main characters are great together, and Austin Jay did a great job narrating this book.

The past comes calling
King and Rory learned they could be strong together in book one, but that will be tested here when Rory's past comes back to haunt him. King and his friends are wonderfully protective and they'll need all the skills and toughness they can must if they are to help Rory and survive. Another hot, tense action story in this series. Austin Jay's performance takes you right into the tick of it all.

The Threat Is Moving Ever Closer.
MM contemporary romance with violent themes due to past gang affiliation. Rory has spent his entire life on the move, running with his Mam to escape his father's reach. But it appears that he's been found again, here in Chicago. Now he has 2 choices, to run again or stay in Chicago with King but first he has to tell king what's going on and who he really is. A fantastic continuation from book 1, needs to be listened/read in series order as story follows straight on from the first book. fantastic narration from Austin Jay.

King and Rory part 2
Rory seems like a regular guy… King fell for him and made his move on book 1. Book 2, they are in love and finding their way until Rory’s past shows his ugly face. It’s a rough time, he is in danger and King needs to protect him. Good storyline that has more to it. Can’t wait for the next installment.

A compelling continuation!
After the last book's cliffhanger I was curious to know what was next for Rory and King, and this follow-up did not disappoint! I don't often read series that follow the same couple, and it was exciting to see how King and Rory's relationship progressed after the honeymoon stage. The threat of the Irish mob made for a compelling storyline, but I was also excited to see this book explore the very real communication issues Rory and King had. King wanted so badly to protect Rory from anything and everything, but in the process of doing so he had a habit of shutting Rory out of his own life decisions. I know he only had good intentions at heart, but I was happy to see Rory stand up for himself and demand to be treated as an equal in their relationship. Even when things were rocky between Rory and King, it did warm my heart to see the King's Gambit family band together to keep Rory safe. The conflict with the mob had a much different outcome than I was expecting, but I can't complain too much when it meant that King and Rory could stay in Chicago without fear. I had hoped that the two of them might finally be able to have the freedom they rightly deserved, but it looks like there's one last loose end to tie up before their journey can come to a close!

Fantastic!
This is an absolutely fantastic continuation of King and Rory's story. As the end of book I (King's Gambit), there was a teaser that this book would explore Rory's past...and what a past. You need to read the books in order, because each builds on the one before. I love these characters including the wonderful side characters who support King and Rory. There is darkness, danger, still some secrets, friendship, passion, and love. I cannot wait for the next book and (hopefully) their ultimate victory and HEA.
The narration is good and keeps this fast-paced story moving along.

Kept my attention
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, and with this being about the same characters, I figured I'd love this one, but it didn't have the pull that book 1 did.
Rory and King are together and doing well, but Rory's past comes to haunt him and gets King and his crew involved in activities they were trying to stay away from.
Unfortunately, the tendency to save your partner from getting hurt was what ultimately ended up bringing more drama to the already complex situation.
Interesting enough of a plot to keep me going, I'm eagerly awaiting book 3.
