About this listen
Keep on the Borderlands was one of the very first D&D adventures, so seasoned gamers remember this product from their early days, and newer gamers will recognize it from the 25th anniversary rerelease. Greyhawk novels are based on the classic D&D modules from this world and provide listeners with the same kind of feeling that they get playing classic D&D modules.

Good Story, Dodgy Accents
I don't know where the narrator picked up his British English and Scottish (I was waiting for an "och aye tha noo"), but as a native speaker of both, they were, frankly, awful. Couldn't he just have used dialects/accents of American English? The story itself is a classic D&D romp, so if you can get past the narrator's dodgy accents, the story is quite enjoyable.

Classic adventure
Really enjoyed this story. Story reads like a classic adventure from tavern to temple. Good narration once again.

Very dull story
I've listened to all the Greyhawk adventures so far. I enjoyed the stories with the Justicar: they had some good jokes, exciting situations and memorable characters.
This story doesn't. It's basically an account of a group of adventurers that arrive at a keep and plan an excursion against bandits. All the characters are annoying and non-memorable. The scenery doesn't evoke a sense of wonder. Nothing much to recommend.

Not very inspiring
I only read this book because I was thinking of running the Keep on the Borderlands as was looking to lift some plot hooks out of it (plot hooks being something that the original module lacks). Sadly, there was very little worth plundering. There is no great threat to the keep and if anything the heroes are the ones that start all the violence. There is no real main villain, bar an evil priest who is dead within pages of his first appearance. There is a tiny subplot of traitors in the keep but this handled off camera and not by the protagonists. So, as an aid for running the adventure there is little to help here. As a standalone book, don’t even bother. Go and read some proper fantasy like Abercrombie, Gemmell, Hobbs, Martin, Pratchett or Tolkien.

By the end I couldn't wait for it to be over
In recent weeks I have listened to several Greyhawk novels. They're all a bit thin - but as an old school D&D fan I keep coming back to the series in the hope of finding something memorable. Unfortunately none of them have made any impression - except in a negative way. This particular reading, however, is by far the worst. The narrator is awful. He cannot do accents and yet his reading is choc-full of the worst vocal characterisations you will ever hear!
In my review of an earlier book I was inclined to give him a bit of a pass - but after this experience my well of good will has completely run dry. His acting is so bad that you end up despising the heroes a little bit more every time they speak! By the end I couldn't wait for it to be over.
Spolier: When one of the characters dies, I gave a little inward cheer - knowing that i would never have to hear his dumb accent again!
The story itself takes a long time to get into its stride. The first half doesn't feel much like a fantasy tale at all. There are hardly any monsters to speak of - so it feels more like some odd medieval caper. It's not a real D&D story. It's a story with D&D references.
I can't recommend this title to anyone - least of all D&D fans.
