About this listen

In this thrilling novel from bestselling author John Marrs, a young couple’s house hides terrible secrets—and not all of them are confined to the past.

Mia and Finn are busy turning a derelict house into their dream home when Mia unexpectedly falls pregnant. But just when they think the house is ready, Mia discovers a shocking message scored into a skirting board: I WILL SAVE THEM FROM THE ATTIC. Following the clue up into the eaves, the couple make a gruesome discovery: their home was once a real-life murder house, with the evidence still concealed within the four walls.

In the wake of their traumatic discovery, the baby arrives and Mia can’t shake her fixation with the monstrous crimes that happened right above them. Tormented by the terrible things she saw, she is desperate to dig into the past to find answers.

Secrecy shrouds the mystery of the attic, but when shards of a dark truth start to emerge, Mia realises the danger is terrifyingly present. She is prepared to do anything to protect her family—but will the previous tenants stop her from discovering their secret?

Very dark and disturbing read

I wanted to love this book after the rave reviews I have heard about it. Well, I definitely didn't love it, but it's one of those books that reels you in and you just want to hear that final twist! Its very disturbing and far fetched in places, but Overall it's worth a listen.
Lady narration is ok, narrator for Finn is very annoying, especially when mimicking Mia!

Twist after twist!

I’ve heard good reviews about this book so I took it upon myself to listen to it via audiobook. Oh wow. I couldn’t stop listening, the twists and turns that happened were just mind blowing! When I thought the story was over, I realised there was a lot more chapters left and I was just left speechless. Fantastic book!

Gripping but far-fetched

I did find this an easy listen but the more you read, the more you can predict & the whole thing is very far fetched. If you don't mind that then this could be a good choice as it is well-narrated and moves at a pace.

Boringly predictable

Firstly, the chap reading Finn was incredibly annoying. It was over acted and cringey. The story itself was really predictable and there was no ‘wow’ moment or anything I would consider a twist. All in all, it was just, meh. Shame because lots of people were saying it was great.

What on earth have I just listened too!

It's a horrible storyline, child murders and abuse.
Being a mother there is no way, depression or not would I leave my kid with that woman.
it's obvious she's controlling and manipulative and her husband OMG!
After everything the mother learns to be true months later she still allows the father access to her son! WHAT!
No one can be so foolish and naive.
Who would leave their own kid with a family of child murderers, its obvious Finn is the same way, I'm not even married to the character and I recognised the warning bells early on!!
It's totally unbelievable that any mother can be so blatantly stupid!
You can tell its written by a bloke! He must think all woman are dumb!
As for the narration, it took me a while to like, some of them were okay, the narrator doing Finn took a while to like but once you've listened to it a few times it's okay. They can only work with what they have after all.
I doubt I'll be reading anymore by this author, especially as if he portrays women this way.
I don't understand all the positive reviews at all, 3 out of 5 is being generous.
