About this listen
Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers team up to crack an unsolvable case in this thrilling new novel by #1 New York Times bestselling author John Sandford.
When federal judge Alex Sand and his two young sons are shot in cold blood at their family home, the brutality of the murders leaves their wealthy St. Paul community reeling. There's no shortage of people with a vendetta against the judge, but the collapse of a major charitable donation he had planned complicates things further, leaving the money in limbo and all eyes on his grief-stricken widow.
As public pressure mounts and both the local police force and the FBI hit one dead end after another, it isn't long before Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers are called in. The duo are determined to chase down every angle and every theory until they figure out who killed the Sands. But when they find themselves stonewalled by the most unlikely of forces, they begin to wonder if each misdirection might actually lead them closer to the truth . . .

Loved this Prey novel
Good story, good characters, nice twist, very much in the Davenport/Flowers mode. It’s a shame we don’t seem to get Flowers-led books any more but, for me, Flowers adds a lot to the Prey books, so maybe it’s a decent pay-off.
Robert Petkoff as narrator is perfectly good. Not Richard Ferrone great, of course, and it takes a little getting used to (although his vocalisation of the female characters is actually much better than RF’s). The only issue I had with the narration was that occasionally Davenport and Flowers came across a bit Batman and Robin - Davenport’s tone overly earnest and Flowers a little too enthusiastically deferential to Davenport.
Anyway, the storyline is great, the characters likeable and relatable; there’s enough intrigue to keep pulling you back and it has suitable ending to wrap things up. All very good.

Not like to old Davenport at all…
This is the first time I leave a bad review for a Davenport book. I felt that neither Lucas or Flowers were the guys I got to know in all the other books. I really hope the next one is back on track… if there will be a next one

RIP Richard Ferrone
A new voice to get used to. I associate Richard Ferrone so closely with the Davenport books that something doesn't seem right. No criticism of the book or Richard Perkiff, himself

Great character writer
one of my very favourite authors and one I love to listen to on audio. Unfortunately that is also the downside of this book as the new narrator just doesn't get some of the nuances of lucasand virgil.Eric Conger makes Virgil and I am missing him here.

Brilliant author but not his best
Always enjoy these books and look forward to every new one. The plot of this one started out well but the conclusion was off key and unconvincing. Sadly the new narrator couldn’t pull off Virgil and I really miss sexy Virgil. Please bring back the old narrators

not as good
enjoyable but lacked the grit of other Davenport stories. Irritating ending, just no need for it,would a suspected double murderer be sitting at home ??

Disappointed
Very depressing, not a patch on previous books. Narration poor, difficult to tell one character from another.

Not up to usual standard. Too many uninteresting characters. No usual cop Banter. Didn’t finish the book.
Narrator not usual Eric C. Rambling story. Very fast moving without accompanying interest. Probably the weakest Sandford I have read. Didn’t finish the book.

So disappointing
Both the story and the narrator were absolutely rubbish. I thoroughly enjoyed all the other Lucas Davenport audiobooks but this was rubbish in every way
