About this listen

Sunday Times bestselling author and neuroscientist Hannah Critchlow illuminates the new science of collective intelligence.

In the history of humanity, almost everything we've ever achieved has been done by groups working together. Like a hive of bees, or a flock of birds, our social and interconnected brains are designed to function best together.

This is collective intelligence: the way in which many people come together to share their knowledge, data and skills to solve huge problems. These problems are too big and complicated for one person to tackle, or even one organisation. But with revolutionary advances in technology and AI, we now have the ability to share our wisdom and knowledge much further than ever before.

In Joined-Up Thinking neuroscientist Dr Hannah Critchlow provides an invaluable guide to our future through the evolving new science of collective intelligence. She reveals what it says about us as human beings, shares compelling examples and stories, and shows how we can work intelligently and collectively in our lives to improve our wellbeing and our prospects.

A compelling insight into this fascinating subject

"It's time to think of intelligence as a collaborative act, not an individual's test score".

I've been immersed in listening to and now reading 'Joined Up Thinking' by Hannah Critchlow, PhD, HonDSc. A fascinating look into the cutting edge neuroscience around collective intelligence.

It resonates on many levels, especially with two teenage children in the home.
There are also some wonderful insights into how we can optimise how we communicate effectively, not just as individuals but also in groups, of all sizes. How meetings might be run in order to maximise the collective intelligence of a team.
Highly recommended!

Interesting experiments discussed

But written as a ten year old was reading it. So not very thoughtful or sophisticated. Good to hear about the research though.

A better read

It is unfortunate that the author decided to be the narrator. Her voice can be annoying, not for the prosody but for her urge to persuade the reader, instead of letting the reader judge herself. It gets better in the second half but it can be a struggle getting there. I would recommend buying the book instead of the audio, also because her work turns out to be original, well-structured and relevant. Towards the end the author looses focus, discussing topics which stray too far away from the topic.

Just wonderful, don't miss it!

I totally loved this book. Hannah brings together fascinating research across a broad spectrum of neuroscience in an accessible format that is as inspiring as it is, to the layman, amazing. The topic could not be more important, how will we capitalise on the power of our individual minds to solve the existential threats facing humanity? The answer lies in how effectively we can connect, share and collaborate. From copying and pasting thoughs to music made of kisses to modifying DNA with experiences, this book is packed with contemporary insights and glimpses into our future.

Made all the better on Audible by Hannah's personal and engaging delivery, Joined Up Thinking is a fantastic journey through our cognitive connections. Enjoy!

Full of nuggets and insight

Accessible exploration of neuroscience and human relationships. I gained new insight into aboriginal art, learned about new forms of intelligence such as transactive intelligence and fluid intelligence vs. crystalline intelligence. Brilliance from start to finish even the epilogue made me think
