About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Two brand-new legal thrillers in one book—from the authors of Juror No. 3.

A young lawyer takes on the judge who is destroying her hometown—and ends up behind bars....

In picture-perfect Erva, Alabama, the most serious crimes are misdemeanours. Speeding tickets. Shoplifting. Contempt of court.

Then why is the jail so crowded? And why are so few prisoners released? There's only one place to learn the truth.

Sometimes the best education a lawyer can get is a short stretch of hard time.

Includes bonus story: Power of Attorney

boring, there's so much better

Dreadful story lines, boring, bad endings, no surprises or twists, seriously not good and not worth a credit.

Almost John Grisham

What a shame the first book ended where it did. It felt like I was listening to a John Grisham story, but Grisham wouldn't have stopped there. It's a pity, because it could have become a strong thriller at that point. I enjoyed the second book; this was more like some of Grisham's work. I'll definitely find some more books by this author.

Not the normal quality of writing

Weak and hardly credible story, wanders around and when we fInally reach a conclusion, it’s a little anti-climactic. Shame really

Two Legal Tales in One Book

Two very well presented books which I did enjoy. The narrators were good and the stories very be well structured. Just abit too similar. Worth reading.

A tad confused

This book is two totally different stories which are not related to each other in any way. Both stories are good but why are they in one recording? There is Jailhouse Lawyer and Power of Attorney, both are fast moving, gripping books and typical of a good James Patterson.

poor representation of women

I found the books a little disappointing, the stories were slow paced and I found the narration a little off putting.
My biggest annoyance was the writing of the main characters in each book, both women have been written to be overly emotional and needy which is a poor reflection on how women really are! The characters are successful lawyers they are not going to be fighting the need to break down every 5 minutes!

Bad natrative

Only managed a few chapters into this book of which nothing happens apart from Martha moves house and gets a new job in a seemingly 'Hills have eyes' town, too 'cliché' for my liking, you know the endings not going to be as good as you hoped with how much each scene drags on, to the point I got frustrated and returned the book.
Not a courtroom drama which I had hoped. Narration was grating with the Texas twang and it was hard to decipher which character was speaking at times.
