About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

It's OK to be angry about capitalism. It's OK to want something better. Bernie Sanders takes on the 1% and speaks blunt truths about a system that is fuelled by uncontrolled greed, and rigged against ordinary people. Where a handful of oligarchs have never had it so good, with more money than they could spend in a thousand lifetimes, and the vast majority struggle to survive. Where a decent standard of living for all seems like an impossible dream.

How can we accept an economic order that allows three billionaires to control more wealth than the bottom half of our society? How can we accept a political system that allows the super-rich to buy elections and politicians? How can we accept an energy system that rewards the fossil fuel corporations causing the climate crisis? How can we let it happen any longer? We must demand fundamental economic and political change. This is where the path forward begins.

It's OK to Be Angry About Capitalism presents a vision of what would be possible if the political revolution took place. If we would finally recognize that economic rights are human rights, and work to create a society that provides them. This isn't some utopian fantasy; this is democracy as we should know it. Is it really too much to ask?

Well based but only referred to the US.

It's a very well based view on the present situation of the US political and economical situation. For me it's too centered in the States, I would have preferred to see a view on Capitalism Worldwide.

There is hope for the future.

Politicians like Bernie, while they are often pushed out of the conversation by the billionaire-funded media, are living proof that there is still hope for democracy. More than just a book, this is a guide on how to bring about fundamental change in our society, from the ground up. Absolutely essential listening.

Bernie talks about everything politics does not address lately

A very good book talking about the dangers of viewing our world through an Uber capitalist lenses. We have resigned to saying things like: well, money speaks louder or in the end of the day, we have to make money.
Bernie touches on the importance of governments creating policies to provide a decent life to all its citizens whilst still allowing a free market to operate. To support the development of enterprises whilst taxing proportionately.
It is a re-affirmation for young people that their word matters and their ideals will change our society.

Excellent could be even more impactful if shorter

I am 62 and feel fortunate in my life . Grew up in Scotland and took advantage of the education and opportunities of the time which sadly have decreased since then. I retired when I wanted and have been able to help all my children to succeed. I share this information as I think outsiders would look at me and think lucky him what does he know about struggling to make ends meet. However actually I do remember being in that position but I never felt hopeless , I believed there was path to better times through decent education , work opportunities and getting a mortgage i could actually afford to pay. I did not have to go to Eton, Oxford , Cambridge although many I ended up working with did. But now I see how different it is for young people today. I have personally benefited from capitalism so it can seem contradictory for me to now be negative about its effects on our society but I do because it has gone Uber as Bernie says. I worked in US met many wealth people including billionaires and Bernie is so right , these guys are only interested in actions which will make things even better for themselves at the cost of general society . I think Bernie does a great job of highlighting what has to happen particularly towards the backend of the book. It is a bit long winded at the beginning just like my review here but it is worth reading with an open mind. It reminds me a lot of “Rights of Man” by Thomas Paine a book from over 200 years ago around the time of the French Revolution. I think Bernie is spot on about a revolution being required now , it will need to be done differently but it will need strong leaders closely aligned with the needs of society. If you are interested in helping a movement which makes life better for the majority and not just the minority have a read and think about what you can do in your everyday life to live that way . If you think the system is working great for you now, maybe you can read this with an open mind and see if you still feel the same . This is a longer review than most people will read so if you did get this far I hope you find it helpful in deciding if this subject is something you want to read. Personally I found the first 4 chapters a bit tedious but it is a 5 star rating overall from me

Bernie for President

Great to hear some common sense from an American politician. Great to hear it from Bernie himself

Great ideas

I found it gave me the will to believe that we can change things for the working class if we work together to make a better world for our children.

Bernie’s route map to democracy in the USA

A well written and well read book from an Independent / Democratic American ‘politician’. He mainly focuses on the way corporate money influences politics in the USA and how most politicians find enemies to blame for people’s troubles instead of focusing on how society can be changed for the benefit of all. He concludes with his own ideas of how politics can be radically changed to bring about a fairer society. I found I was agreeing with most, but not all of his conclusions, but nevertheless the book is thought provoking and his ideas are worth consideration.
