Summary
The future holds all sorts of positive potential: technological advancement, increased life expectancy, improvements to society. But negative possibilities exist, too. Perhaps the worst of these is the arrival of an alien race - not just any alien race, but a hostile one intent on conquering humankind.
Hugh McDaniel lives in Queens, New York. He's a genius, and he has been struggling to pick one area to focus his life’s work on. His brother and best friend, Travis, is a marine officer. They get along very well, despite their differences. When aliens suddenly invade and destroy their entire culture, they are forced to struggle together in the ruins.
At first they just tried to survive; to collect food, medicine, weapons, and to find other survivors. But now, they've set their sights higher: on resistance and reclaiming their planet from invaders.
The enemy doesn't remain silent for long, and they start sending missions into the ruins, to gather humans and carry them off to unknown places with an unknown purpose. Hugh and Travis lead a constant battle against them; a fight against the enemy that will not end, that cannot end, until only one side remains. But Hugh has a forlorn plan: a way to, just maybe, defeat the impending massive assault on the humans of New York.
While Hugh frantically prepares his crazed operation, Travis leads the desperate mission to find the enemy and discover what they really want. And when he does, it is more terrible than anything he had ever imagined. He must return home to bring the news that the engagement between humans and aliens is absolutely a fight to the finish and that surrender isn’t even a possibility. But will he even have a home to return to?

Get an Editor.
1Hugh was clever. Very clever. Hugh knew he was clever. Very clever. Travis (sometimes Tyler) is Hugh's brother. Travis (or Tyler) is clever, but not as clever Hugh, because Hugh is intelligent. Very intelligent.
He is also 19 and knows how to repair nuclear bombs and everyone thinks he's great because he's clever. Very clever.
As ever, Jay write a fairly good story but repeats himself so often that you just end up rolling your eyes when certain phrases are repeated. He knew. He was almost certain. He was clever. Very clever.
RC Bray as always brings the story to life. RC Bray is good. Very good.

A good easy listen
Let's face it, anything narrated by RC Bray is usually a good listen. this is the first book by the author I have listened to and will definitely be looking for more. lt was fast paced and well put together. all in all one to add to your favourites.

It reads like a first draft
I don't know if this book was reviewed by an editor before publication, it doesn't seem to be the case as it reads like a first draft. The plot lines are occasionally very thin and there's a lot - s lot - of repetition.
The concept is good and entertaining but it could have been so much better if a bit of extra effort had been put in. I hope the sequel benefits from this.
Not even the great R C Bray could totally rescue this

light weight b-scifi
Classic style invasion scifi with Interesting storyline . However poorly written characters and below average storytelling makes this a b-class.

A good story desperately in need of editing
Repeats itself over and over. To many needless interruptions to the flow. Action scenes don’t flow as well as they could due to needlessly adding too many perspectives. A good story and concept.

A thoroughly depressing book
I gave up halfway through when I got to the part which details unimaginable act of sadistic barbarism.

repetition, repetition, repetition...
got this title as its narated by the great RC Bray, a good omen you would think, and indeed Bray is brilliant but let down by an average story line made worse by poor writing. That they had to survive, there would be a fight, that the main protagonist was a genious/bright/intelligent was repeated in just about every paragraph. Likewise every plot line and event was equally reiterated time and time again to the absolute detriment of the story which in itself had nothing new or exciting to add to the genre.
All in all a waste of a credit and one of the few I could not finish.

Disappointed
The amount of repartition spoilt the story. The only good thing was the narrator RC Bray. It was like they were telling a story to an Alzheimer’s patient. Thankfully this was a book included in my memberships for I didn’t cost me anything . It’s a shame because I normally follow a series through the years, but this time I was grateful it ended!
