 The Yoshida Fire Festival, held in Yamanashi Prefecture's Fujiyoshida City on August 26th and 27th every year, is an autumn festival that marks the end of the Mt. Fuji climbing season. 毎年8月26日と27日に山梨県富士吉田市で行われる「吉田の火祭り」は、富士山の山じまいを告げる秋祭り。
正式名は「鎮火大祭」です。
この祭りは、北口本宮冨士浅間神社と諏訪神社の祭りで、400年以上の伝統を持っています。
26日、氏子町内を練り歩いた神輿が御旅所に安置されると、夜、通り沿いに約2kmにわたって並べられた約70本の大松明が一斉に点火されます。その様子は、まるで町が炎に包まれたかのよう。
27日、神社に戻った神輿と一緒に氏子たちが境内を回り、祭りは最高潮を迎えます。
長い歴史を誇る火祭りですが、これまで一度も火事になったことはありません。そのため、松明の消し炭は火除けのおまじないとされています。©2017 KODANSHA English
