About this listen
Dinner at an ancient Cornish inn leads to one baffling disappearance after another in the fifth intriguing Ishmael Jones mystery.
“It’s just a nice weekend, in a nice country inn. Nothing bad is going to happen....”
Ishmael Jones and his partner Penny are attending the re-opening of Tyrone’s Castle, an ancient Cornish inn originally built by smugglers. Over dinner that night, the guests entertain one another with ghost stories inspired by local legends and superstitions. But it would appear that the curse of Tyrone’s Castle has struck for real when one of their number disappears into thin air. And then another....
Is the inn really subject to an ancient curse? Sceptical of ghost stories, Ishmael believes the key to the mystery lies in the present rather than the past. But with no bodies, no evidence, and no clues to go on, how can he prove it?

Love these books
I can’t even tell you why I enjoy these books so much, but I love them. So very entertaining and the narrator is excellent. In these stressful days it is very pleasant to escape reality for a while.. Plus, there are quite a few in the series I am happy to say. Going to get my next listen now.

Sadly the reader reminds me of Lost Voice Guy.
Great story. I had to give up trying to listen. The readers voice llilts up and down in all the wrong places for me. If you like G. Jackson though, this is a good story to listen to.

I got this free and am delighted.
I’ve never heard of the writer or the narrator before this but downloaded the he House on Widows Hill then this one. The dialogue and delivery are intriguing, amusing and whimsical. I love the set up and will listen to the other books in the series.
The only concern for me was the similarity in set up between the two plots but that may be a device of the series. I would definitely recommend you give one a try.

Could have been 3 hours shorter - uninspired
Having read the previous book which was brilliant, this is pretty much a carbon copy locked room (house) mystery without the mummy.
The characters are deeply stupid and contrary. They deserve their fate since they do the absolute opposite of what a vaguely intelligent person would do.
I like the premise so I'll give the next book a chance, but reading the details, I suspect this author only has one plot in his repertoire.

Great series
I love this series it’s quirky with wonderful characters but this particular episode did not grab me. It’s like Ishmael was having a bad day at the office with his perceptive abilities and I’m sure that would never happen. Will definitely continue with the series as it’s now a firm favourite.

Thoroughly enjoyable
Unlike the previous reviewer I enjoyed this novel as much as I’ve enjoyed the others in the Ishmael Jones series. If you can’t relate to the main character being an alien then there’s no point in reading or listening to the series but I love the idea of Ishmael and Penny solving mysteries set in large country residences with secret passages - it makes a change from all the grimly realistic police procedural audiobooks I mainly buy. The narration by Gildart Jackson may not be to everyone’s taste but I think his gorgeous voice suits this series perfectly.
