A middling new beginning
Just finished this audiobook. Relatively short compared to some 40k stories but is a focused event.
Well read with some fancy audio at times (necron craft reporting in sounds like robotics over the radio) and cannot complain about the narration
For me the issue is in the story itself, I find the necrons to be coming across as somewhat incompetent (some due to infighting but others for no good reason) and as a fan of same waiting for them to get the recognition they deserve it was a disappointment.
Marines are the holier than thou superhumans that cannot make mistakes and cut through all opposition (skorpech Lord going down a little too easy given the new model and would have really added if he had killed one of the main characters)
Overall not a bad story but not the gripping premiere horus rising was to a new series.

A fantastic delve into the world of the Necrons.
It’s great to have a book where you get to hear it from the other side, and this does precisely that, showing us the thought processes of the Necron and their hierarchy.
The Ultramarines are also fairly well written, but show a few traits uncharacteristic for their legion, so points docked for that.
Fantastically read though, with great voices and sound effects throughout.
Well worth a read as we get into 9th!

Decent story to accompany the Indomitus box
It felt a bit like they were trying to just drop in all the models from the new kit but overall the story was decent and the performance was good so enjoyed listening to this and hope to see some characters return in the future.

pretty good
its one of those books that is aptly described a "bolter porn" nothing monumental happens but you get a couple of necron POVs which is nice.
top quality voice work from BL as usual

Nice that Zippy, from Rainbow,still gets work!
I greatly enjoyed this book but found it slightly odd that Zippy voiced the bad guys subordinate?
While I pleased that Zippy has found more work after his Rainbow hey day, I don’t think his voice was suitable.
As much as I like him, I hope he doesn’t voice any more characters in the WH4Ok universe.

Decent story but necrons seem lacking
it was decent enough but it seems the writer either has been told new cannon lore which is like children's cartoon level depth or they just skimmed necron lore and said ok they bad and silent king is a tyrant ruler who is incompetent.
this is just terrible considering the old lore was so much better and the new lore would literally mean he burned out his entire control over them willingly to then be a plotting paranoid megalomaniac no sense in it. I do hope they dknt continue this pathetic Saturday morning villain il get you next time routine they have

Ultramarines
I'd say that this is a great book if you're a fan of the ultramarines as it contains the theory crafting and excerpts from the various works of Roboute Guilliman that you'd come to expect from the boys in blue. The necrons are a tad bit boring in my opinion and the voice actor could've put some more effort and gravitas into some lines but all and all I enjoyed it.
