Travel Writing?
Now this is travel writing at it's very best. Bruce Chatwin tells the story of Patagonia in delicious detail not only describing the landscape but those who people this strange part of South America, including the indigenous tribes who once occupied it. If you have never read Bruce Chatwin then do yourself a favour and read him.

Fascinating but at odds with the modern world
There are lots of fascinating tales, anecdotes and stories here, plenty to keep you listening, and the performance is good. But the whole book is oddly anachronistic. For large parts of the story it feels written a good 50 years before it actually was, and looking at other reviews across the internet there’s plenty of finger pointing re colonial views, which to a degree are understandable. However, still very enjoyable, glad I found it.

Superbly read. Seemed to get it spot on.
I guess it could be a bit Marmite. But I love Marmite.

Stands the test of time
I last read this 30 years ago 🙃, the book inspired many of my trips. I revisited Bruce Chatwin after Werner Herzog's recent documentary on Chatwin, Nomad. The book gives you a flavour of the weather beaten tip of South America. With time, the book now seems like a bewildering collection of anecdotes, showing all the characters Chatwin encountered, interwoven with historical vignettes. You wonder how much was exaggerated 😊 but this doesn't disguise Chatwin's infectious wonder lust

Mind numbingly boring.
Read for a book club. Not my cup of tea. Outdated and the audio was monotone at best.
