About this listen

Innkeeper Holly White is decking the halls this Christmas season, but someone is on the naughty list when a body is discovered in the fifth installment in the Christmas Tree Farm mystery series from bestselling author Jacqueline Frost.

It’s Christmastime in Mistletoe, Maine, and the Historical Society has launched a widespread campaign to celebrate the town’s 150th anniversary. Descendants of the founding family, the Snows, have returned for the first time, and Holly is determined to make the family’s visit magical. In an attempt to put Mistletoe on the map, Holly’s mother, a respected local baker, attempts to break a record by baking the world’s largest gingerbread man, but her plans are whisked away when Mr. Snow’s body ends up in the batter.

When Mr. Moore, the local mistletoe farmer, is accused of the crime, Holly reprises her role as amateur sleuth to protect the sweet older man. Between hosting the inconsolable Mrs. Snow and other guests at the inn, receiving threatening messages telling her to stop her investigation, and preparing for her first wedding anniversary with Sheriff Evan Gray, she might need a Christmas miracle to survive.

When someone breaks into Holly’s office and scratches a warning into her desk, she knows she has little time left. Can Holly uncover the killer before someone else gets burned, or is her involvement a recipe for trouble?

Enjoyable Christmas tale

Enjoyed this latest story from Mistletoe. Love listening every Christmas time. Lots of lovely descriptions of sweet treats and Christmas games with a murder mystery for good measure.

A tired format

I have enjoyed the previous books in this series but this one felt laboured and cliched. The narrator was better in previous books and now each voice sounds sickly , weak and saccharine .

Rather dull and repetitive.

I love the local characters and the narration is fantastic BUT, as was to be expected, it's too much the same. I did think long and hard about buying this as, though I don't mind the nonsense of the annual murder and visitors STILL turning up for their Christmas jollies, the rambling nature of the story and the lack of plot development makes it difficult to listen to for very long. However, it becomes more cohesive towards the end. I shan't be buying any more.

So fun - knows what it is and is brilliant for it

Really enjoyed this, not the best in the series but another fab addition anyway - also a bit more self knowing and tongue in cheek this time. Absolutely still super cosy and still dramatic. Just a great fun Christmas read.

Another cosy mystery

The mystery and characters are as good as ever, but we're missing the excitement of the chemistry between Evan and Holly now that they're married. Not quite the same, but still a lovely listen before Christmas.
