Summary
What if you began to suspect your child of an unspeakable crime?
One night changed everything. A father murdered in his bed. A mother beaten almost to death. A daughter who claims she knew nothing about her boyfriend's murderous plans. But is she telling the truth?
Hanna can't remember the details of what happened that traumatic night; she barely survived the brutal assault that left her a widow. However, if she is to keep her husband's killer in jail, she knows she has to try. But Hanna hadn't realised that those memories may cause her to question everything she thought she knew about her daughter....

awful narrator (sorry)
The narrator really ruined this book for me, it was read like a childs story. awful awful stuff. I only continued to listen because I found the story very good.
My advice -
read the book, it's a good story

What a fantastic listen
I wasn't sure what to expect from this novel and worried that it would be just another 'domestic noir' of which there are so many currently published. However this is probably the best I have listened to since 'Girl on the Train' last year. It is read brilliantly by Katherine Fenton and I will definitely listen to more books narrated by her. Although this book is a psychological thriller it is also a beautifully written family drama that at times reminded me of the great Anne Tyler. Highly recommended.

Good listening
I really enjoyed this book. The narration was excellent. My only criticism is that the end of the book was a little long winded

Even better the 2nd time.
I first read this book a while ago and then I decided to give another listen. It really is very good indeed. I enjoyed the narrator she seemed very natural and I loved her delivery of Dawn the psycho daughter. Highly recommended.

Great listen
Took me a while to get into this book however I am glad I preserved as it was fantastic - not what I was expecting - explored the mothers relationships with her children and how easy it is avoid facing up to our children's short comings and my own as a mother

Best read/listen in a long time. Excellent!
I loved this. Compelling story of family dynamics and a terrible crime. I absolutely devoured it and listened at every opportunity. The characters (including Abby) are very well drawn and the tale entirely plausible. This enhanced the shocking nature of the events. I see that one reviewer disliked the narration. I can't stick with poor narration and return books if it doesn't work for me. I often struggle with books narrated by Americans, especially American women, who often have a high pitched nasal style. However, in this case, I found Katherine Fenton's narration to be excellent. I look forward to reading/listening to other books by this author.
