IT STARTED WITH A KISS

AND ENDED IN MURDER...

The darkly addictive new novel from the Sunday Times bestselling author of I Looked Away, Blood Sisters and My Husband's Wife.

In Poppy Page's mind, there are two types of women in this world: those who are faithful to their husbands, and those who are not. Until now, Poppy has never questioned which she was.

But when handsome, charming Matthew Gordon walks back into her life after almost two decades, that changes. Poppy makes a single mistake - and that mistake will be far more dangerous than she could imagine.

Someone is going to pay for it with their life . . .

'Absolutely brilliant...full of twists and turns that left me positively breathless' Angela Marsons

'A python of a book; it draws you in gently at first and then the coils of tension begin to tighten and refuse to let you go...' Jane Shemilt

'Readers you are in for a tremendous treat - a roller-coaster of a ride that will leave you screaming, 'No!' on more than one occasion' Carol Wyer

Critic reviews

I loved this cleverly written tale of the devastating consequences of a wife's mistake (Emma Curtis)
What an addictive read! Extremely clever storytelling with terrific pace and real emotional depth too. I loved it (Teresa Driscoll)
Fans of Louise Doughty and Clare Mackintosh will love I Made a Mistake. Exhilarating and heartbreaking in equal measure, this story will stay with me for a long time (Nuala Ellwood)
Jane Corry is at the top of her game and her latest novel cements her place as one of the superstars of the genre. Addictive, dark, and all too believable, I Made A Mistake is her best yet (Phoebe Morgan)
I love all Jane Corry's books but this is her best yet. So clever, compulsive and twisty with a reveal I never saw coming. Superb (Claire Douglas)
I Made a Mistake is an absorbing and gripping masterpiece, skilfully plotted with superbly drawn characters who will stay with you long after you've finished reading (Kathryn Croft)
Corry often explores darker themes, and those living on the fringes of society and this book is no exception: gritty, real, interesting and clever. Highly recommended (Gillian McAllister)
Brilliant and chilling. Jane Corry knows exactly how to turn the screws in this compelling and hard-hitting story about the dark underbelly of respectable family life. Another outstanding novel by Jane Corry (Kate Furnivall)
Jane Corry nails it again. This is a page turner with depth, with characters and human conflicts that stay with you long after the novel is finished. Superb (Kate Hamer)
A convincing suburban thriller with a compelling sense of doom (Ross Greenwood)

Fab story, easy listening

A really enjoyable audio book, well read and unpredictable. I will definitely listen to more by this author.

Ok story but pretty irritating at times

The story was quite enjoyable although a little far fetched. But there were several areas that really annoyed me!
Betty for example is only 70, and yet she is described as an elderly old fashioned woman. My mum is 73 and would be furious at that comparison!
It also seems to be the theme of the story that no matter how anybody treats you, you should stay married and work it out for the kids sake. So old fashioned!
And the main character whining on about how hard it is as a working mum, when she has a mother in law living with her who pretty much does everything for her! Just not relatable!
Also the way she hasn’t spoken to her own mum in years for leaving her dad when she was 18?! Who behaves like that at that age!! Understandable from a child but not an 18 year old. She really is extremely self centred and takes no responsibility that everything that goes wrong for her, is of her own making!
A shame really as these areas really spoiled it for me and I couldn’t wait to finish it

Good story but…

… so badly written. Vastly drawn out and over done. Emelia Fox does a good job (apart from the Scottish accent?) but this book is at least 2 hours longer than it needed to be

Not for me

I just couldn’t get beyond the fact that all the characters, apart from Betty, were thoroughly unlikable. I need someone to become invested in. It seemed the characters “characters“ were, unnecessarily, too front and centre to let the story through. Like when you listen to bad book because the narrator is excellent or vice versa. Neither should usurp the other. But here it was like it would be if say the wrong actors had been chosen for the roles in play.

Brilliant

Fantastic intricate characters, beautifully and sensitively written and brilliant plot. What’s not to love?! I really do recommend this book. I had ideas about the backstories of the characters which were not explicitly confirmed and I like the ambiguity.

Emilia Fox brilliant as always.

Finally some different writing style

This is the first novel I’ve listen to from Jane Corry. Used to read thrillers who usually start with the crime committed and frantically searching for the motive and the murderer I was somehow surprised this was not the case in this novel. So, one question came up “where is the crime?”, well, I loved this different writing style! It’s original, refreshing and it makes you far more connected to the characters and their stories. I finished this one and went to start another one from Jane Corry (I Looked Away)

Enjoyable and good narration

Didn't like it as much as the previous Jane Correy book I read a few weeks ago but nonetheless it was enjoyable and well worth a credit

I made a mistake buying this

I hate criticising books that the author has sweated over but this for me was a very long drawn out ‘Poppy pity party’.
Hoorah for Betty who exudes resilience

Too long with too little content
I’ve lived other books by this author but this not so much
