About this listen
The incredible true story of the death of Jimmy Hoffa, the most famous hit in Mafia history. Now a major motion picture.
The Irishman is an epic saga of organised crime in postwar America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hit man who worked for legendary crime boss Russell Bufalino alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century.
Spanning decades, Sheeran's story chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and it offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.
Sheeran would rise to a position of such prominence that in a RICO suit against the Commission of La Cosa Nostra, the US government would name him as one of only two non-Italians in conspiracy with the Commission. Sheeran is listed alongside the likes of Anthony 'Tony Pro' Provenzano and Anthony 'Fat Tony' Salerno. In the course of nearly five years of recorded interviews, Sheeran confessed to Charles Brandt that he handled more than 25 hits for the mob, and Brandt turned Sheeran's story into a true crime classic.

Fascinating and eye opening history lesson
The life of Frank Sheran makes for a ghoulishly fascinating listen. i learnt a lot about the mob, the Teamsters and the Kennedy Nixon years that i was only vaguely aware of before. The latter part of the book is more for completists and maffia obsessives.

Wow what a story.
I watched the movie first and then downloaded the audio. Loved it. Getting the full background was fascinating. Hard to comprehend the scale of violence and criminality that went to the highest level of government too.

Gripping, from start to finish
An excellent story, wonderfully delivered - fascinating insight into the workings of the Mafia, and remarkably sympathetic to Frank Sheerin. I loved it!

Great Story, Difficult Narrative
Really enjoyed this book utterly fascinating subject and material , and don't get me wrong, the quality of the narrators performance takes nothing away from it
Can't help finding myself rewinding a little though every few chapters as the point of view character suddenly changes with no real indication and leaves me a little lost, might have been useful to have 2 narrators working together to smooth this over

Told with great respect for Sheeran. Brandt has
created a hugely compelling submersion into a very secrative world. This raises the bar forever.
