About this listen

Danielle Clark's life is going according to plan. She's in the middle of her surgical residency and she and her fiance, Will, are the perfect match. At least that's what everyone tells them. When Will brings home a rescue dog, it's hard to tell who's less enthused, Dani or her cat, Jinx. The dog wreaks havoc on the household and needs training, but who has time for that? Certainly not Dani.

In steps Kara Britton, owner of a successful kennel. When she picks up Dani's dog for day care, sparks fly. The wrong kind of sparks. When a frazzled Dani forgets her own dog's name, Kara is absolutely appalled.

The two women verbally spar at every opportunity, until a breathless, angry kiss rocks both their worlds. Surprised by their attraction, they make a conscious effort to keep their distance. But fickle fate and meddling friends seem to delight in throwing them together.

A beautiful comedic love story...

I love love loved this book. I was hooked from start to finish. The MCs were both relatable and the hilarious spark of comedy kept me chortling away till the end. The development of the relationship from sparring partners to love interests was natural and beautiful. True love connected through fate and chance made this story one that had me listening into the early hours! A true masterpiece!

Partially unpopped popcorn!

I'm not entirely sure what to say about this book. It wasn't crap, but it didn't blow me away either. I guess the best way I can describe it is: meh.

Don't get me wrong, it is entertaining & funny in certain parts & has it's moments of spiciness that makes your eyes go a bit wide. However, it all became too repetitive for me. The same jokes were being used over & over again. At times it felt really juvenile. The romantic storyline between the leads weren't advancing at a good pace. In fact, I think pace was a big thing that needed improving in this book. It almost felt like a slow burn until the last chapter & half when suddenly loads of drama started happening all at once. Because of this, it felt like all the loose ends were tied up far too quickly & by that point, I found myself not really caring about what happened.

There were two things I found really irritating; 1) For a group of friends who are supposed to be close knit & caring, all of Dani & Kara's friends were all for Dani cheating on her fiancé, Will. I completely understand that this book is sapphic fiction, & Dani was confused & wasn't in love with Will. However, Will was a nice guy & supposed to be Dani's best friend. Yet, she strung him along for far too long & allowed everyone to laugh behind his back while she cheated on him. I think that's what made me not root for Kara & Dani as much as I probably could have, had Dani split up with Will earlier or at the very least shown some compassion to her "so called" best friend.
2) This is advertised as "enemies-lovers", but Dani & Kara didn't strike me as enemies. Yes, they knock heads a few times they see each other in the beginning of the book, but it was more "2 people who irk each other-lovers".

I did think the narrator was very good. I think she could have had slightly more distinctive voices for some of the characters, but they weren't that similar I didn't know who was who.

Overall, I would recommend this book, but to advice people to be prepared for repetitive juvenile jokes, 2 dimensional characters & the final 3 chapters full of half baked ideas that felt like the author had thrown everything, including the kitchen sink, in to aid the drama when it wasn't needed.

Awful

I couldn’t listen to this all the way through as the narrator’s voice grated on me. I couldn’t even concentrate on the story line so I can’t really comment on that.
