About this listen

You never know where the love of your life might turn up. When Matt Connelly suggests to his best buddy Cody Mook that they head to downtown Seattle to audition for the gay reality TV show Husband Hunters, both agree the experience might be a lark and a chance to grab their fifteen minutes of fame.

What they don't know is that the show, modeled after HGTV's House Hunters, will open doors of longing neither expected. For Matt, the secret love he has long harbored for Cody might be thrust into the spotlight. Cody might realize his search for his perfect-forever-man extends no farther than the man who's always been at his side.

Husband Hunters promises laughter, tears, and, just maybe, a happy ever after. Will Cody and Matt's story be one of best-friends-to-lovers—or an outright disaster?

MM Fun reality show

It was well written, with friends, hurt/comfort, and a huge lack of self-worth from one of the main characters.

Both main characters have flaws, but I enjoyed the story and felt sorry for Matt.
It's only at the end that you start to breathe again, like in every well-written book; that's when all the missing pieces come together.
It is such a moving book that causes all your emotions to the surface, and I would highly recommend it.

Wesley Landry is a new to me narrator, but I soon warmed up to him and enjoyed the narration. I did speed up to 1.20 on audible, which is my norm.

Clever, Witty, Original

Rick R. Reed's Husband Hunters is a clever and witty friends to lovers romance. I've got to say, I’ve been so happy that Reed has been releasing these previously published books in audio! I'm a huge audiobook fan, and this has given me a chance to enjoy these books for the first time.

I enjoy the way the story is structured, all the twists and turns keep it quite lively. Especially at the beginning, we get inside information that makes it doubly fun to watch as these characters navigate the story. Husband Hunters is completely unique, and nothing like I was expecting.

I'm seriously impressed by Wesley Landry's narration in the audio version of Husband Hunters. Landry totally understands Reed’s marvelous sense of humor, and imparts this into his performance. Wonderful!

Impossible to set aside

This was hard for me to set aside once I started it. I think everyone has watched reality shows but this story just grabbed me from the beginning and made me want to keep going to the end.
Cody was a bit oblivious of what Matt’s true feelings toward him are. Matt gets the idea that if they end up together on a reality show it will be easier to get Cody to really see him as more than a bff. Things don’t go as planned at all. Matter of fact I even had to wonder if the author was going in a totally different direction than expected. I think the author does a great job of making the characters so believable. Also the settings are possible. The narration by Wesley Landry fit these characters perfectly. I love these stories and hope for many more.

I liked the concept; the actual story didn't work

I liked the concept of this story, the set-up, and the friends-to-lovers plan, but it didn't pan out for me. It was a little too unbelievable for Cody to resist ANY possibility of loving Matt as anything but a friend then all of a sudden at the end of the book realize he loves him. Also, how could Matt be so in love with Cody, but fall so easily into bed with someone else? I didn't feel the love connection between them. Seems they were better off as friends. Like Cody kept saying in the book, I couldn't see them as lovers.

The narration of the audiobook was very good. It perfectly captured the feelings, emotions, and personalities of the characters.

I received a free review copy of the audiobook, and I am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Friends to lovers

Rick R. Reed has a wonderful writing style and I thought "Hunsband Hunters" was clever and funny.
It's about friends to lovers. Cody is clueless about how Matt feels about him and so Matt suggests that they both apply to be on a reality show. Unfortunately, things don't go as planned and I liked the twists and turns because some of them were unexpected. I liked the structure of the story in general, it was something different and I enjoyed listening to Matt and Cody's story.
There is also hurt/comfort and one of the main characters has a bit of a lack of self-esteem. But I think it's good when main characters aren't perfect but also show weaknesses. As well as not-so-nice side characters, there were also totally likeable side characters.

I'm really impressed with Wesley Landry's narration, who I didn't know as a narrator before. Wesley Landry has a very pleasant voice and he conveyed the emotions well as well as the humor that is in this story. I enjoyed his narration.

Looking for a husband...

I liked the story, it has a good theme but I needed more action. Maybe it was too long before Matt and Cody realized they were in love with each other. I did have a good time listening to it. It's a good one by Rick Reed and well narrated.

Beautiful story

Matt and Cody’s story are really well written. The participation in the reality tv show Husband Hunters creates an interesting and different take on the trope ‘Friends to Lovers’. I absolutely fell in love with these two characters and was rooting for Cody to realize what was right in front of him. Both author and narrator are new to me but I definitely want to check out more of their work.

Friends to lovers!

Friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite romance tropes and this one was so good! For a minute I wondered if there really would be an HEA but I shouldn’t have doubted that Rick R. Reed would get these two guys there. The epilogue was a fantastic little tidbit at the end of a great story. I enjoyed listening to this narrator and thought he did a great job performing this story.

Cute story

I enjoy Rick R. Reed stories and this one was enjoyable. Wasn’t my favorite, though, and I wasn’t surprised to see it’s one of his older books. I feel the newer ones have more depth and are a bit edgier. Regardless, I snapped this one up and listened.

Matt really grabbed my heart. He’s in love with his best friend. Unrequited love is always painful – especially when it’s a friend you literally see everyday in your job. The men are teachers together and often hang out on weekends. When Cody’s not getting laid, that is. Matt doesn’t see himself as attractive as someone like Cody, and he resists telling his friend how he feels.

Enter Husband Hunters – the reality show that help singles find mates. This version, filming in Seattle, is helping gay men find husbands. Matt loves the show and drags Cody down for an audition. His premise of hoping they’ll somehow wind up together felt a little bit of a stretch, but I was willing to roll with it. And although most of the book is in Cody and Matt’s point of view (skewing a little bit more toward Cody), having Martha Stewart’s point of view was super cute (no, not THAT Martha Stewart).

The ’will they or won’t they’ pull existed throughout the book, even as I was sure they would. Generally, when you have two point of view characters, they wind up together. But Rick occasionally pulls the rug out from under me, so I was never one hundred percent certain. Especially when someone approached Matt and really appreciated him for who he was – something no one else had really done.

This is a cute story, quite fluffy, and enjoyable. Made more so by Wesley Landry’s strong narration. He has a great style that suits Rick’s words and the two work well together. I’ll certainly pick up any others which come my way.
