Summary

When it comes to matters of the heart, Nicole Landers has made some wrong choices. But now, Nicole, one of the top real estate agents in Chattanooga, thinks she's finally made the right one in Jamie Tate. Despite a serious Johnny Cash obsession and a tendency to shy away from long-term commitment, Jamie seems to be the perfect choice. Jamie is kind, loving, and especially nice to Nicole's elderly grandmother. Now all Nicole has to do is convince the attractive police detective that it's time to take things to the next level.

Jamie is crazy in love with Nicole and ready to move their relationship forward. Jamie decides it's finally time to sell her home and move in together - something that Nicole has been talking about doing for months. Knowing that Nicole believes her to be commitment-shy, Jamie thinks it might be fun to surprise her with the move.

However, things take on an ironic twist when an old friend Jamie hasn't seen in years comes by to look at the house, setting into motion a series of events that leaves more than just Nicole and Jamie's relationship in jeopardy.

Very enjoyable, really good narration

Hurt is a comedy of sorts, based on lack of communication between Jamie and her girlfriend Nicole. Jamie wants to surprise Nicole with a marriage proposal but goes about it all wrong, and keeps getting caught by her girlfriend in compromising positions.

This is not Lila Bruce’s best but it’s nice, and Hope Newhouse’s narration makes it very sweet (and brings my rating up from 3* when I first read this book to 4*). Both MCs are adorable and sexy, the secondary cast – Jamie’s colleagues, Nicole’s best friend, the neighbour… – adds fun and great lines. Jamie’s obsession with Johnny Cash is cringe-making in a hilarious way, and Nicole’s insecurities feel genuine.

Very enjoyable. And it deserves a better cover.

Sweet, well written, comedy of errors.

Well, it's not exactly a comedy, since it gets a bit anguished at times, but the anguish comes from a series of miscommunications and well intended errors of judgement that are a bit comedic... I did find myself shouting, "noooooo! Don't do that..." at one of the MCs at times.... Which shows how involved I was... Lol.

This is a well written short ish story, involving a happy, established couple, one a detective and one a Realtor, who have a great relationship, but are still new enough to make misjudgements of each other. I guess this is the story of mistakes and how to solve them... I kept thinking I wound get some sort of detective story thrown in too, in fact this book felt like the relationship part of a detective novel... (there isn't any detective story) but it works perfectly well without any crazed serial killer lurking in the undergrowth, or mob violence.
Indeed, no cops were shot in the shoulder during the whole book! 😊
I enjoyed this, the reader, Hope Newhouse was also great, and I would certainly listen to other books read by her. Abby Craden is awesome, but it's good to find another reader who puts the effort in.
I did get an Arc copy of this audiobook in return for a fair and honest review, which was nice, because it allowed me to discover a new to me writer and reader... Since I tend to listen to longer books as a rule.
