Summary
The sickly servant. A powerful young master. An alliance Kingdoms are made from.
Centuries before a certain dungeon first met a wise pink wisp, the world was torn apart by war. For a time, even the Guild was shaken to its core as a wave of necromantic cultivators surged forth from the dark corners of the earth.
Garron feels the impact of war differently than most, as a servant in the estate of a Mage that left for the war. The young lord Andros and his servant have been left in the tender care of the ambitious cultivator, Jackson. The workload is a death sentence: Andros is forced to train in near-isolation, and Garron has fallen ill. One fateful night, they make a run for survival and freedom.
Jackson doesn’t take kindly to his meal ticket vanishing into the night. The Hunt is on.

doesn't feel like a Krout book
this is a good story with interesting characters, a good setup...
but it could easily have been in an original world...
only the tagged on intro shows this is related to the same universe...
Moreover, while the writing is up to snuff, the humour is somewhat forced and very different to what I've come to enjoy from Krout up to this point...
so if you are picking this up because of the attachment to Krout, no rush...
if you are picking it up due to the premise being interesting, you will have a good time...
Daniel is a good narrator and he does this book great

Simply beautiful, shocked at how good this book is.
Friendship no matter the odds… this book is something else!
The story is just so heartwarming and totally different from the standard dungeon core / cultivation norms. Original plot, some nice twists and well developed and thought out characters makes this a joy to listen to.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but I will be buying the next in the series as soon as it comes out, it’s just that good.
