About this listen
Interacting with people at work can be one of life’s greatest joys—and greatest frustrations. Some coworkers never trust us to do our jobs, or never respond to requests for information, or waste our time with dozens of unnecessary emails. The cost: our work results and personal sanity.
How can you approach workplace interactions with more empathy and less resentment? How can you become more successful when working with “annoying” or “difficult” coworkers? In How to Work with Anyone, you’ll dive into what psychology, communication, and business can teach you about developing effective, gratifying relationships at work.
Raluca Graebner, an executive coach and expert in interpersonal dynamics, uses real-life examples from clients, colleagues, and herself to help you navigate interpersonal differences and access empathy and compassion. You’ll learn why mindset is the key to any workplace collaboration, how to cultivate trust-filled relationships with coworkers, and how to assert your needs and protect your boundaries. In addition, you’ll build a toolkit to influence effectively and to navigate conflict, as well as to stay centered when triggered by a colleague.
Working with other people starts—and ends—with you. And in that full circle sits this insightful, enriching Audible Original.
©2023 Audible Originals, LLC (P)2023 Audible Originals, LLCThe reason for this is that the author is extremely naïve, and probably operates in a very privileged environment. It's all about coming together and how people are inherently good ( "walk in their shoes!") and almost nothing about truly toxic people. Bullies, workplace dictators, bosses that see you as a number, the manager who got their job because of connections and runs roughshod over the people who actually keep the company running, the sexist but never SO sexist that you can report them guy, the woman who will always take your credit, the guy that calls in sick every time a tough/busy day is ahead, the person who uses gossip as a weapon, the ceo who just wants to squeeze as much money as possible out of the masses below. They are not really dealt with. Instead it's all about understanding and positioning yourself as a friendly doormat.
Reading her bio I don't think she actually has worked in a normal company, only in academia. And always in a privileged position. Plus the courses she gives are mostly leadership trainings for Fortune 500 companies. If you've had a long career in various sectors you know that this is a very different environment than what most people experience. To tell these people -who are essentially powerless against those 'leaders' at those companies that they should just be understanding, and realize we all come from different mindsets is shallow, trite, and honestly condescending. Perhaps that's understandable, since her entire career seems to be in giving 'leadership' courses. So I guess she has to constantly remind these people to be understanding towards the people working for them. But this course has very little tools for the vast majority of us.
Very naïve author
