About this listen

Collected together for the first time, listen to the first three books that inspired the How to Train Your Dragon films: How to Train Your Dragon/How to Be a Pirate/How to Speak Dragonese.

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third is a smallish Viking with a longish name. Hiccup's father is chief of the Hairy Hooligan tribe which means Hiccup is the heir to the Hairy Hooligan throne - but Hiccup feels like a very ordinary boy. Can he be a hero?

This audiobook bundle contains the first three hilarious stories in Hiccup's adventures with his dragon, Toothless. Will Hiccup lead 10 novices in their initiation into the Hairy Hooligan Tribe? Can he steal back his book of Dragonese from the Romans? Can he navigate the Fortress of Sinister and defeat the Monstrous Strangulator?

Most importantly, can Hiccup really save the Isle of Berk with a dragon who looks like an ickle brown bunny with wings? There's only one way to find out....

David “Talented” Tennant

I loved this story. I’m in my thirties and have no reason to be enjoying children’s books but this came highly recommended online so I had to give it a go. David Tennant did such a fantastic job with the voice acting. The accents, the voices, the emotion and the overall delivery were sublime.

The stories themselves are funny and entertaining. Gripping with twists and surprises. Well worth the listen. Easy to listen to as you drive or do some cleaning.

One thing that irritated me was the REALLY LOUD music at the beginning of every chapter. That was unnecessary and never really added to the story. Sometimes the tune didn’t match the mood as well, like cheerful music after an intense or sad performance. That’s my only criticism.

Really fun! (but...)

Really fun, stories easy to listen to. Although sometimes I feel like some parts of these books are not for children.. but then I'm not even sure if these books were intended for children.
Loved David Tenants performance!
But there's a 'but' if you're a big fan of the movies.
*tiny spoiler*
If you've watched the movies, and you're a big fan, and you love Hiccup and Toothless that Dreamworks created... And you came here to know more about them and read more of their stories... I'm gonna tell you, you might be a little disappointed to start with... Because the books, tho being really fun and interesting, are VERY different from the movie. In fact they don't really have that much in common... Turns out the original book story was changed a LOT for the movies... the characters were changed a lot, the place was changed a bit and Toothless is NOT the one you grew to love. I'm not gonna spoil much, all that I'm going to say is, to be honest I really struggled through the first book. Wanted to quit half through. I took a break, decided to tell myself this is different Berk, maybe in a different universe and I just need to look at it as a story of a completely different boy and completely different dragon, that just happen to have the same names. And with that outlook, the book became way more enjoyable :) So buckle up for awesome adventures! But just keep in mind, this is a sort of 'What if' version of the Hiccup and Toothless :) and enjoy it with an open mind :) cause in the end, it is really fun to listen to!

Excellent stories and Enthralled Children

Excellent stories, have started an obsession with the books particularly with my 6 year old.

Only downside is it's difficult to find where the different books start and finish. renaming the chapters would help.

Story excellent, music between chapters stupidly loud

David Tennant does a fantastic job of telling reading the book the only let down is the music between the chapters which is rather ear splitting your loud compared with the narration
