Summary

In Eva Carter's How to Save a Life, saving a life is only the start of the story....

It’s nearly midnight on the eve of the millennium when 18-year-old Joel’s heart stops. A school friend, Kerry, performs CPR for almost 20 exhausting minutes, ultimately saving Joel’s life, while her best friend, Tim, freezes, unable to help.

That moment of life and death changes the course of all three lives over the next two decades: each time Kerry, Joel and Tim believe they’ve found love, discovered their vocation, or simply moved on, their lives collide again.

Because bravery isn’t just about life or death decisions; it’s also about how to keep on living afterwards.

Amazing!

I don’t usually write reviews but after listening to this book I had to.
This is a fantastic book. The story is so gripping and you really care about the characters. I love the way that the story continues over years so you get a real understanding for their lives. The narrators are also brilliant and bring the story to life.
It was a book that I really didn’t want to end. I loved everything about it

An epic tale!

Gripping yet gentle and beautifully written. A real detour from my usual genre, I’m more of a thriller and mystery reader, but i’m so glad I purchased this book, I devoured it over 5 days. As other reviewers have commented I really felt invested in the characters and cared about what happened to them. I look forward to other titles from this author.

easy (& informative!) holiday read!

An easy read which more than satisfied my need for a holiday story with a dash of romance.

Highly recommended to anyone with a heart

As a fan of E.R. (I don't think I missed an episode in all its years on air) and a fellow Brighton dweller, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this novel when I heard of its publication - it ticked so many boxes for me. I can picture the flashing lights of an ambulance on Hove lawns, and feel the adrenaline coursing through Kerry and Tim's veins as they rush to save the life of their schoolmate, Joel, who has a cardiac arrest playing football with his mates. This dramatic opening incident sets the pace for a gripping novel which follows the trio over the course of twenty years, as their lives weave together and separate romantically and professionally.

But whilst the novel is set before the pandemic started, How to Save a Life is eerily timely. It's been over a year since the pandemic started, forcing millions across the world to consider their own mortality and face the death of their loved ones - a topic this novel explores.

It's storytelling at its best - I was completely hooked!
