Summary

If you enjoyed How to Keep a Secret, don’t miss Sarah Morgan’s summer listen, Family for Beginners!

This summer one family will discover that together, they can do anything.

Matriarch Nancy knows she hasn't been the best mother but how can she ever tell her daughters the reason why? Lauren and Jenna are as close as two sisters can be and they made a pact years ago to keep a devastating secret from their mother – but is it time to come clean? Lauren's teenage daughter Mackenzie masks her own pain by keeping her mother at a distance. Her mother, aunt and grandmother keep trying to reach her but will it take a stranger to show her the true meaning of family?

When life changes in an instant, the Stewart women are thrown together for a summer and suddenly they must relearn how to be a family. And whilst unravelling their secrets might be their biggest challenge, it could also be their finest moment . . .

Really enjoyed.

It wasn't an extraordinary story but I enjoyed the pace, character separation and flow. No complexity and an easy listen for me

A solidly pleasing listen for Sarah Morgan fans

This is my fifth Sarah Morgan and it didn’t disappoint. Likeable characters, romance, heart and story that thrums along nicely. Maybe not my ultimate favourite but infinitely listenable. A joy not to be limited to a Christmas or summer title as one is by her and other authors I so enjoy. (The cover suggests beach huts - totally misleading.)
I had a stupid gripe about each chapter being headed with a word that was then defined but this is neither here nor there in terms of overall enjoyment of the meat of the story. A satisfying feel-good,
‘happy- ending-guaranteed,’ listen which is what I need and signed up for.

Great listen

So many great characters in this book and the narration made you live through each of their stories and feel all their joys and pain. First book I’ve bought from this author and first I’ve heard the narrator, I’ll be looking for more from both.

Very moving and beautiful story line

I was engrossed and loved the London versus Martha’s Vineyard lifestyle. The teenager, Mackenzie, was a bit of a pain and then became considerate which was the improbable part of the novel. Extremely well read. Well done!

Starts well but becomes mushy

I was really keen on this book to begin with, but as it progressed the characters and relationships became less and less believable and the plot developments increasingly implausible and predictable. By the end one was drowning in syrup.
