Summary

If you want to make positive changes in your life and achieve your long-term goals, I can't think of a better way to do it than to learn how to become more self-disciplined.

Science has figured out a lot of interesting aspects of self-discipline and willpower, but most of this knowledge is buried deep inside long, boring scientific papers. If you'd like to benefit from these studies without actually reading them, this audiobook is for you. I've done the job for you and researched the most useful and viable scientific findings that will help you improve your self-discipline.

Here are just a few of things you will learn from this audiobook:

  1. What a bank robber with lemon juice on his face can teach you about self-control. This story will make you laugh out loud, but its implications will make you think twice about your ability to control your urges.
  2. How $50 chocolate bars can motivate you to keep going when faced with an overwhelming temptation to give in.
  3. Why President Obama wears only gray and blue suits, and what it has to do with self-control.
  4. Why the popular method of visualization can actually prevent you from reaching your goals and destroy your self-control (and what to do instead).
  5. What dopamine is and why it's crucial to understand its role if you want to break your bad habits and form good ones.
  6. Five practical ways to train yourself in self-discipline. Discover some of the most important techniques to increase your self-control and become better at resisting instant gratification.
  7. Why and when indulging yourself can actually help you build your self-discipline. Yes, you can stuff yourself (from time to time) and still lose weight.
  8. You too can master the art of self-discipline and learn how to resist temptations. Your long-term goals are worth it. Scroll up to buy the audiobook now.

good book but too short really

great book yet a little to short. it was well read & content was very good yet as I mentioned to short as the author was just starting to get into the nitty gritty of how we think & what stunts our growth to perform to our highest standards. it's worth another listen so by all means check it out for a short book.

More Weight Loss Book

Any additional comments?

This book seems to primarily serve as a practical guide to gain motivation/habits to lose weight, as 90% of examples relate to weight loss. You can interpret the weight loss examples, and there are some good points, into developing self-discipline around other areas of your life. But, it really felt like the book was aimed at a different audience (those wanting to be fitter) rather than a generic one. A few good points. Easy enough to digest. However, would only recommend to those wanting to go the gym/eat better, but lack the motivation.

Some sound advice among a load of horse poop.

So, I'm just a regular person with a bit of a discipline problem. I'm great at not being disciplined in several areas of my life. I thought 'let's go self-help then, maybe i' ll get a little nudge.' I came across this book and decided to go for it. OK, there's mostly diet and exercise advise here, which may be applicable to other areas of life. It's incredibly tedious to listen to - women (in the writer's mind) are only about losing weight and men seem to be all about bulking up and weight lifting. The examples are infuriatingly stereotypically gendered and No, I'm not woke but pretty aware MEN WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT TO. Truthfully, a lot of stuff you get here - you can get from Google. A lot of times I found myself thinking 'Duuuuude, really?!!' as many of the examples are outdated and could really do with an overhaul - like when he quotes a Dean Spears and his paper on Decision Fatigue: Dearest Dean Spears suggest that the poor stay poor due to generally poor decisions and decision fatigue..hearing this, I nearly had a fit on my run! So yes, maybe a few worthwhile tips among lots of outdated opinions. You don't need this book really. Get a healthy snack, a tea or something, do some squats and Google some tips to build discipline.
