Police procedure with a personal touch

Unlike another reviewer, I think that Caroline Goode's reading of her own book gave authenticity to this well-structured police procedure book. No, she's not an actor or a professional audiobook reader but she IS the person who knows this book (and the case) best and I really liked listening knowing that this was the woman responsible for it.
It is an outrageous case about an honour-based murder - something I knew nothing about until now. I thought it was perpetrated by disgruntled husbands, but now know it to be so much more that involves whole communities. Shockingly though, it is about parents who cared more about their standing in the community than the unconditional parental love they should have for their children.
A brilliant, depressing listen.

Extraordinary story with unfortunate reading

Carline Goode is an extraordinary human and the story should receive all the publicity, but she is not a reader, unfortunately. The story would have merited an experienced reader, that enhances the narrative, now it’s rather the opposite. Still a book well worth reading/experiencing.

As fascinating as it is heartbreaking

Caroline tells concisely from start to finish the entire case, of Banaz Mahmoud, clearly with compassion and empathy.
How disgusting that Banaz was so brutally raped and murdered by the community that were supposed to love and cherish her. I have read her sisters story first and having seen the programme on tv surrounding this case many years ago, the entire time I could hear Banaz telling her story from her grave, this is truly an abhorrent crime. I wish the word "honour" would be dropped and be named something more appropriate like misogynistic medieval terrorism. Banaz's partner also was murdered the day she was taken from this earth and that makes it all the more heartbreaking. I know these vile egotistic vultures will never truly take accountability, they have no place in this society. I hope Banaz is at peace with her love, well done Caroline for narrating this yourself too, exemplary work and goes to show there are still good police out there,

Heartbreaking!

Wasn’t sure at first when I heard Caroline speak that she had a voice for audio… I was wrong, you could hear the passion for this case in her voice! Utterly heartbreaking and incomprehensible that a family could treat their own flesh and blood with such disregard. Being the mother a daughter, the mothers actions are beyond belief, Reading this made me realise there are some good police out there doing amazing work! Well done to the whole team - Honour killings are horrific and need to be stopped!

I have seen the film the documentary on Banaz but this is far much better...puts the Islington bits together and cuts deep...

Sobering

What a lady and what a case. Down to the dedication of Caroline and her wonderful team, that justice was served for Banaz. What a brave lady too who deserved to be recognised. I am privileged to work alongside the author, and her level of care and compassion, professionalism and dedication is astounding still.

Just heartbreaking but in the best way.

I came from a Hinduism background, so I don't really know anyone who has been a victim of honor-based violence. Caroline Goode was amazing in the case, I've seen the documentaries based around Banaz, and the drama that was released a few years ago. It boils my blood how a family can do this, but growing in a similar culture (not as bad as this), about how family is important, and how we have to respect the elders in the group, even if they don't entirely respect us.

I'm glad something good as come out of Banaz is death, and that female police officer who didn't believe her, just really made me upset. Hopefully, the training has been effective with honor-based violence attacks. The male members for Banaz's family, just show how hypocritical and misogynistic they are. how they were happy to prance around in the community to say that they did it, but in court when they were in real trouble, thinking that they will get away with it.

Similar what Caroline suggested, this can be both good and bad. Good knowing that police are finally doing something about it, and have the support of anyone who is danger of honor-based violence, but bad that the people to commit this crime might have to work even harder to make sure the police do not find out, and find them. I know it has turned in a rant rather than a review, but how can I review a person's life, and what they experienced.

I just wanted to say what a shame that Banaz's boyfriend, passed away later one. Caroline was correct, you are a hero and have more honour than those men ever had. I'm glad that Banaz's sister is doing as best she can be, and is hopefully safe.

amazing

absolutely amazing it has been told to amazingly the details it keeps u hooked. I'm glad we still have people who are willing to fight for justice for the others. we truly appreciate your support your efforts and all the people involved in getting benaz justice. may the perpetrators suffer and all who new this would happen and didn't speak out.
