Summary

Holly Gibney, one of Stephen King's most compelling and ingeniously resourceful characters, returns in this thrilling novel to uncover the gruesome truth behind multiple disappearances in a Midwestern town.

Bonnie Dahl is missing . . .

Holly Gibney of the Finders Keepers detective agency is meant to be on leave. But she finds it impossible to turn down Bonnie's mother's desperate request for help.

Then she discovers a single earring close to the location of Bonnie's abandoned bike.

Mere blocks from where Bonnie Dahl disappeared live Professors Rodney and Emily Harris. They are the picture of bourgeois respectability: semi-retired lifelong academics. But they are harbouring a savage secret in the basement of their book-lined home.

Now Holly must summon all her formidable talents if she is to uncover the truth behind multiple disappearances in her Midwestern town.

'I could never let Holly Gibney go. She was supposed to be a walk-on character in Mr Mercedes and she just kind of stole the book and stole my heart. Holly is all her.' STEPHEN KING

If there’s no Will, there’s no way.

This went back after about ten chapters..... couldn't listen to anymore of the monotone narration. Will Patton nailed the narration in the last books; this was like listening to someone read a school essay.

Covid

Reasonable read but the outdated covid views felt shoved down your throat. Sadly this is runs throughout the book.

Amazing as always.

I am a “constant” reader but I think the narrator was great. The story was brilliant and the repeat characters really help. I’ve loved holly since Mr Mercedes and am really glad she got this outing.

If you love King you will love this.

Awful awful awful narrator

Oh my god I’ve waited so long for this book and then the whole thing is ruined by the god awful narrator !!!!!
That’s not Holly Gibney that’s just some samey female voice. Soooooo disappointing the reason we fell in love with Holly was because will patten made her who she is. He had her voice perfect this narrator hadn’t got a clue. Im so sad and disappointed why why why did you have to ruin such an amazing character with this awful narrator what we’re you thinking. You clearly weren’t. Sad listener unfortunately I couldn’t star it higher because that wasn’t Holly

Will Patton come back!

The narrator ruined this for me.After being so familiar with Will Patton throughout the series. However, being a constant reader/listener of Mr King I enjoyed as usual his style and narrative.
Enjoyed the story.More

Love that Justine Lupe narrated this!!

Great story. Very engaging. I thought SK may have overcompensated for the story gap (explained at the end of the book), by talking about COVID so much. While I echo all the sentiments I think fewer mentions would have been less repetitive and age better… I’m saying that it probably was so pervasive that the time and I’m just blocking it all.

Anyway I loved the story and love that Holly Gibney from the Mr.Mercedes TV miniseries narrates. Loved her in the show and loved her on this audiobook.

Not one of his best, the weakest of the series

Never really got going, the rest of this series is very good so this was a bit of a letdown

Holly is back!

Great story; didn’t like the new narrator for the character of Holly. It just didn’t feel like her. Phrasing and cadence all wrong,

Always genius

Gripping story with some absolute gruesome parts that can only come from the genius. That is Mr King. Wasn’t keen on the narrator. She made Holly sound like she was about 23
