Summary

As a motorcycle dispatch rider in London during World War II, Maggie Cameron faced her share of dangerous situations. Yet none filled her with as much dread as the thought of moving to America to join her GI husband, John MacPhee, after having been separated for six months. Except for the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, everything in Lilac is different from her beloved Scotland. How long before John discovers his Scottish bride is completely unsuited for life as a banker’s wife?

Life in the orderly MacPhee household has been completely upended since John’s return from the war. His father’s sudden injury puts John in charge at work and at home, leaving little time for battle scars to heal. Will Maggie forgive him for dragging her away from the country she loves and into his chaotic life?

Loved the story. Great narration.

What an upbeat story His Scottish Bride is! At just over 2 hours long, there is no time to delve into the many of the issues these characters face, but the story had sufficient depth to feel the fears, hopes and love for each other than Maggie and John felt.

Rebecca Fine’s narration was wonderful. Her character voices felt genuine, and both her male and female voices were done extremely well. The tone and pacing were spot on. I particularly liked the voice of Maggie; she sounded so optimistic even having lived through what were undoubtedly very hard times.

His Scottish War Bride

I enjoyed this story as it was easy to listen to and largely without conflict. In particular, it makes great bedtime reading. I found the characters to be well developed but the actual storyline itself was a bit bland and would have benefited from more development, although as this story is only a small novella it is obviously restricted by its short length. I really enjoyed the narration and thought her voice added a lot to the story. Overall, I'd recommend for anyone looking for an easy listen with good characterisation.

I enjoyed the narration of Rebecca Fine

Maggie was a motorcycle dispatch rider in London during World War II. She moves to America to join her husband John who is banker . She needs to over come her fear, of not being good enough. Her husband loves.
A great story.

Good upbeat story, excellent narration

A good upbeat quick read novella. Excellent characters well developed despite the short listening time. I would have liked a bit more of Maggie's experiences in America but it was still a good listen. Rebecca Fine is an excellent narrator with a good ear for accents. Overall well worth a listen
