About this listen

The tiny Scottish fishing town of Hillmyre is isolated and dying. It’s the perfect hideaway for the jaded and cynical academic Dr John Watson.

All Watson wants is to write his novel but when the bodies appear and his help is sought all hopes of a quiet life start to unravel. Will it be the making or breaking of him?

Follow Watson’s adventures in Hillmyre, the first in a series of cosy mystery thrillers.

So good I listened twice

I really enjoyed this story; so much so that after a few weeks I listened to it a second time. The story is nicely set up with a lone Englishman in a small Scottish village trying to find his way in a society very different from what he has known, while trying to solve a murder at the same time. All the characters are beautifully captured and the narrator makes an excellent job with all of the different Scottish voices and the lone English one. I especially liked the care take to display the voices of the minor characters, such as Bonnie, Tam and Jimmy. A great listen and I am hoping that we'll get to hear more from Dr. Watson in the future.
