About this listen

The beguiling story of the Queen of Mount Olympus, told by Jennifer Saint, the bestselling author of ATALANTA, ELEKTRA and ARIADNE.

From Jennifer Saint, the bestselling author of ATALANTA (UK, Sunday Times, April 2023), ELEKTRA (UK, Sunday Times, May 2022) and ARIADNE (UK, Sunday Times, April 2021), comes the captivating story of Greek mythology's most famous wife.

When the immortal goddess Hera helps her brother Zeus to overthrow their tyrannical father, the ancient Titan Cronos, she dreams of ruling the world at his side.

But as they establish their reign on Mount Olympus, Hera begins to see another side to Zeus, a side just as ruthless and cruel as Cronos was.

She was clearly born to rule, but does that mean perpetuating a cycle of violence and cruelty that has existed since the dawn of time?

Will assuming her power mean that Hera loses herself or can she find a way to forge a better world?

Ok story, frustrating pronunciations

The story was fine enough, and I enjoyed listening to it but wasn’t really what I was expecting.

The pronunciations of some of the names (Hair Bear for Hebe, AahRez for Ares for example) was just criminal and nearly made me stop listening. Who signed them off?

I was enjoying this but my god the narrator is incapable of pronouncing a single name correctly, it’s actually distracting

Absolutely empowering

Warning to the reader contains SA and this then leads to who Hera becomes. Hera told like this is absolutely awe inspiring. Couldn’t recommend highly enough.

Fantastic listen

Highly recommend. A great spin through Hera’s eyes through the Greek myths. Jennifer Saint always delivers.

Good story but the mispronouncing of most of the names was distracting.

Good story the only thing is the narrator pronounced quite a few of the the names wrong which was a bit annoying and distracting.

Great story but narrator mispronounces names

Annoying how the narrator keeps mispronouncing some of the gods names. Takes you out of the story somewhat. Still good though.

Not as compelling as Atalanta

It’s like the narrator is mispronouncing the names on purpose!

I have 10.5 hours still to go but I’m not sure if I’ll make it

Fantastic story

Jennifer Saint weaves together all the tendrils of Hera’s mythology into a cohesive and captivating retelling of the old legends, adding a new perspective to much-retold patriarchal tales. A real breath of fresh air. My only criticism would be that the final two chapters dragged on for slightly too long and could have been halved as they didn’t really add much to close the story.

Amazing!

This books was incredible! The story line everything. The only thing that was bothering was the missed pronounced names. Apart from that I loved everything about it!
