About this listen
Mark Hansen thought working as artist's assistant would be glamorous, especially if that artist was a vampire. Black tie events, witty repartee, gracing the pages of the local style section. Didn't happen. Not even once.
Jonathan Varga is an enigma. True, he's quiet, generous, and scrupulously polite. But he has zero social life, refuses to be interviewed or photographed, and insists he can only consume feline blood.
Why supermarket blood won't suffice, Mark hasn't asked. He's rarely at a loss for words - he can dish an insult and follow it with a snap as quick as you can say "Miss Thang." But one look at Jonathan's black-as-sin gypsy eyes, and Mark's objections drain away.
So he endures the perpetual grind of their routine: Jonathan hiding in his studio, swiping black paint onto black canvases. Mark hurling insults while he buffs the office to a shine with antiviral wipes. Each of them avoiding the other in a careful choreography...until a blurb in Art in America unleashes a chain of harrowing events neither of them could foresee.
As secrets from Jonathan's past are brought to light, it becomes clear that all his precautions weren't nearly enough.

Interesting Story
Not sure I chose the best time to listen to this story, but the concept is interesting and well written. The characters are likeable and the narration is good.

Enthralling
As narrator; Joel Leslie breathes new life into the characters on the page. It doesn't take long before you're completely absorbed into the world. Absolutely stunning.
It's an interesting new twist on vampirism that parallels the fear of how HIV spread in the 80s and 90s and it was simply wonderful to revisit the story. The new novella was aptly named as it was definitely a very sweet epilogue for that characters that didn't leave a saccharine after taste (unlike perhaps those smoothies).

It took some getting in to.
It wasn't until about chapter 10 when the story became interesting. Once you've got to that point then it becomes better and the story has action, feeling, emotion and some slight humor.
Then we get to the author's note right at the very end. Once you've heard that then the whole store makes sense and you find out why the first 10 chapters are needed.
Joel Leslie (narrator) has again done an amazing job.

Excellent
I really enjoyed this book. This is set in a scary world of vampirism and is not the usual vampire story. The characters are well written and appealing and the story is exciting. The narration is excellent and easy to listen to, and the characters are brought to life in a very engaging manner.

Fabulous.
A very different and eminently plausible take on the Vampire legend. It’s a great story taken to the next level by an awesome voice actor. I loved it.

Excellent and thought provoking.
I've just finished listening to Hemovore/Sweetness. I absolutely loved it, but it really made me think about the pandemic we find ourselves in and the way that different countries are handling it. I can't help but think of the people refusing to wear masks and the impact that would have had on the spread of HHV. I also look at the BLM movement and despair at the full on civil war I'm guessing a VML movement would have caused. I think this book will stay with me for a very long time.
The story is very exciting, low on steam but high on emotion and with an HEA. Joel Leslie does an incredible job as always.

Romance in a time of viruses
Joel Leslie evoked the characters vividly. The story starts by having to set up the alternative world but still moves fast enough you don't feel swamped with detail. It moves smoothly into a romantic adventure with a satisfying conclusion. There is a free novella ("Sweet") at the end to see how things turn out later...

Wow more than i expected
I loved this book. The way they live and expectations so as to not catch the virus. Totally different from other vampire books. Joel did a wonderful job with the narration
So happy for Sweets to be added so we could see the wonderful wedding. Highly recommend

I would have liked to read a whole series with this world and characters.

Fresh output on vampirism
Loved the viral aspect of vampirism in this, rather than the suck you dry and turn you with my blood aspect that mostly all other vampire stories have.
The calorific flavoured oil ‘smoothies’ they drink because hey, vampires need calories to keep their strength as well as a small daily dose of blood. Also a nice difference to the norm everyone is so used to reading about these days.
This book and narrator had me hooked all the way through. I absolutely adore Jonathan and Mark and all their friends - and how they prove that v-negatives and v-positives can retain relationships and friendships no matter which side of the spectrum you reside.
