About this listen

Hampshire, 1900: With the sudden death of her father, the life of 15-year-old Harriet Benson changes forever. Forced from her home, Harriet is sent into service to provide for the family. Arriving at the grand Dalton House, she meets the owners' crippled son Joseph, with whom friendship soon blossoms.

When circumstances force Joseph to leave the family home, Harriet is happy to accompany him. But Harriet is unprepared for her inheritance of Greyladies, a supposedly haunted house in the country. While Harriet and Joseph grow ever closer, the plots and actions of both their families threaten to destroy their happiness. Will their love, and the legacy of Greyladies, be able to survive?

Lovely story and well narrated

Have only recently discovered Anna Jacobs but I'm thoroughly enjoying all her books. all are slightly different but with very good plots and narration. Because they are set in different periods of History are really interesting. Look forward to listening to many more. This one in particular was excellent and easy to listen to as well as being compelling.

Heir to Greyladies

The author pulls you into the book from the first page, to the last. One of the sons of the house falls in love with the servant. A good twist to the story is he has nothing to offer her as he is the youngest son, the eldest after wasting his inheritance . The youngest is expected to marry for money so that the parents can live as always a comfortable life.
