Summary

The Sunday Times best-selling author of The Gladiator and Brothers in Blood returns with another unpauseable, thrilling, and action-packed adventure.

The fierce courage of the men and women of the Greek Resistance is brought to vivid life in Sunday Times best seller Simon Scarrow's powerful new novel of World War II.

It's 1938. A perfect summer on the Greek island of Lefkas for three young people untroubled by the simmering politics of Europe. Peter, visiting from Germany while his father leads an archaeological dig, has become close friends with locals Andreas and Eleni. As the world slides towards conflict and Peter is forced to leave, they swear to meet again.

In 1942, Andreas and Eleni have joined the partisan forces resisting the German invasion. Peter has returned - now a dangerously well-informed enemy intelligence officer. A friendship formed in peace will turn into a desperate battle between enemies sworn to sacrifice everything for the countries that they love....

Solid storyline and excellent narration.

The story is told in a series of reminiscences which is not a style that suits every reader, but this has been managed and delivered by excellent narration and a strong plot. The characters are believable and the thread is not too interwoven with sub-plots or meanderings. Very enjoyable.

Outstanding and profound story.

I normally follow Cato and Macro but I thought I’d give this a go.

I wasn’t disappointed.

The performance was pinpoint and extremely easy to follow the varied
characters too.

Another great listen from Simon Scarrow

I was a little reluctant to change from listening to the Cato & Macro books but as I've listen to them all so far I had run out of books so decided to give this one ago and I am so glad I did. It's a great story which is narrated brilliantly (again) by Jonathan Keeble. I won't spoil the story here for you and would readily encourage you to read it for yourself.
