Highly effective calming "hacks"

This book talks about different kinds of anxiety as well as how to quickly calm your anxiety. All of the calming techniques are practical and can be done daily without going out of your way. In this age of constant stimuli, anxiety is almost omnipresent. We need to find ways to quell the anxiety within and this book is a great resource to help us figure out how. Also, the journal that's included was a nice surprise!

Packed with Useful, Actionable Strategies

This book proves the adage that less can be more. In a mere 50 minutes, author Natalie Herman provides a plethora of ways to manage and control anxiety. Her diverse array of techniques comes from her own experience, as well as her research in psychology, neuroscience, nutrition, and mindfulness. Herman begins with a brief explanation of what anxiety is, different types of anxiety, and different manifestations. I was surprised to learn that over 300 million people suffer from an anxiety disorder and distressed to learn that less than 37% of them are treated. For anyone untreated, this book is a great place to start. Herman discusses breathing techniques, grounding techniques, listening to music at certain frequencies, creating mindful mornings, better dietary choices, creating boundaries, volunteering, and much more. Speaking of dietary choices, Herman makes the solid case that the “gut-brain axis” can contribute to well-being or anxiety depending on what foods you eat. When anxious, many people go to comfort foods, which is exactly the wrong play. The book’s tone and narration are supportive.
