Summary

Guitar Woman is filled with romance, suspense, and passion, and set in beautiful Greek locations.

Alex Kouros's passions are making exquisite guitars and producing Greece's premier beer. At a prestigious art gallery he meets artist Cassandra Beckham. A whirlwind romance ensues, but is cut short when malicious kidnappers board the yacht they are sailing on in the turquoise waters of the Aegean. As they struggle with the malefactors Alex is shot and Cassie falls into the sea with a blow to her head. They are left for dead, and although they survive they both think the other died.

Alex blames himself and tries to drown his sorrows with his brew. Cassie washes up on a deserted beach of a tiny island.

Will they be destined to find each other again?

Are you an artist, too?

As she sits in a gallery in Athens, gazing at a glorious painting by one of Greece's most prestigious artists, Cassie, a sculptor from Boston, is approached and spoken to by an attractive Greek man. He is Alex, brewer and maker of guitars. He offers to show her his Greece, and gently they fall in love. But before he is able to propose, an attack parts them leaving both to rebuild their lives without the other.

Denise Kahn writes with such elegance and beauty and her books are filled with music, both in her words and in sound inserted between the text. The story is short but filled with exquisite detail, colours, tastes and a sense of place. Slow paced yet very satisfying. In a word, gorgeous. She is also the narrator of this story and she reads impeccably, perfectly matching the text, and her voicings of her male and female protagonists is clearly differentiated and appropriate. Like the honey one of her characters seperately from the comb in the latter part of the story.

I discovered the works of Ms.Kahn only recently so, when I saw Guitar Woman listed, I immediately requested it and was very fortunate to be gifted a complementary copy via F.A.F.Y. Thank you so much. Listening was like unwrapping a perfect little gift. Not for everyone, perhaps. The romance is love, not sex and there is very little violence. But if beauty and an exploration of some of the sights of Greece appeal, this is definitely a book for you.
Highly recommended.
