About this listen
Guilty Not Guilty is a journey of greed and jealousy set against the grief of personal tragedy and loss, with many a twist and turn along the way.
'It is said that everyone over a certain age can remember distinctly what they were doing when they heard that President Kennedy had been assassinated, or that Princess Diana had been killed in a Paris car crash, but I, for one, could recall all too clearly where I was standing when a policeman told me that my wife had been murdered.'
Bill Russell is acting as a volunteer steward at Warwick races when he confronts his worst nightmare - the violent death of his much-loved wife. But worse is to come when he is accused of killing her and hounded mercilessly by the media. His life begins to unravel completely as he loses his job and his home. Even his best friends turn against him, believing him guilty of the heinous crime in spite of the lack of compelling evidence.
Bill sets out to clear his name but finds that proving one’s innocence is not easy - one has to find the true culprit, and Bill believes he knows who it is. But can he prove it before he becomes another victim of the murderer?

One of the best!
I loved this s book and Martin Jarvis’ reading of it. It was more like a play as he gave each character his own voice. Shame about the “Kind Hearts and Coronets” mistake but it didn’t affect the story and gave me a good laugh. This is one of Felix Francis’ best stories and I didn’t see the twist coming!

Language used
Sorry but despite Dick Francis being one of my favourites, this book I found very grating the use of Americanisms is something I hate , we don’t have sidewalks or car trunks in the U.K. just as a couple of examples. I bought this book in the UK and fully expected English not American English. Bitterly disappointed

Oh gosh, my first negative review
I was never so glad to finish an audible novel. Martin Jarvis is one of my favourite narrators, but even he could not make up for the tedious pace and awful americanisms. Tylenol, I ask you! The book used British terms when referring to mobile phones instead of cell phones, amongst others, so I assume it is only the Audible version that swapped ordinary British terms for their American equivalents. I was frankly baffled by the departure from the usual setting of the colourful and exciting horse-racing world which readers have come to expect and love in Dick and Felix Francis novels. Just bizarre.

Good
This was a good story. The ending was abrupt, but Martin Jarvis was his usual quality narrator.

Disappointing
I have been an avid reader of and listener of Martin Jarvis reading Felix Francis's works for many years now. I had looked forward to this new title, and felt disappointed. Perhaps I have read them all too recently, but it did seem that parts of the plot had already been explored in previous books.
The sound quality was variable throughout the production, but specifically the fade-in at the beginning of each chapter came from the middle of a word, and at a different volume from the preceding chapter in many cases.
Also despite being written by a British man living in Oxfordshire, and set in England, there are far too many American phrases. I have noticed that many authors now choose to have American and British versions of their work, both audible and written, and wonder whether this is the case with this work. Perhaps Audible is selling the American version. If there is a choice, perhaps this could be highlighted at the point of purchase.

Brilliant and superbly narrated.
Another gripping tale, proving Felix has inherited his father's talent as a superb novelist with a surprising end.

Classic Felix Francis but...
Although I enjoyed the book, my enjoyment was slightly marred by Americanisms in what is essentially an English story. Especially an audiobook where the narrator is quintessential British but uses vocabulary such as ‘lot’, ‘gas station’ and ‘trunk’.

Back on top form
This book is a bit slow. But it's back to original Dick Francis standard. Every aspect of the story and the characters is there. Plus there is a great ending. There are millions of books written these days with no twists and an totally obvious storylines. Let someone else read those. Give me a good mystery with some surprises. Long may this reign continue.

quite entertaining
I quite enjoyed the story although I did find some terminology irritating sidewalk, car's trunks, gas stations etc. it's not quite as well read as I had hoped, one of the characters often sounded like Kenneth Williams.

great story but....
I don't understand nor. do I like the Americanisms used in the book. "realtor, pants, trunk cellphones." it takes away the authenticity of the English novel.away from the book. This appears to be a consistent theme in the last three or four books..
I wish he wouldn't do it.
